Engine health
Hello,
I’ve got an evo 7 with a forged engine. It’s probably done 1500miles since build. Had pistons and rods at a company in wales, who I’ll never use again!!! It’s always used a little oil but I never drove it often to really notice. 3-400miles to 1/2 litre. 10w50 Titan pro s. It’s for wiseco 1400 pistons, gsc s2 274 cams etc. I’ve done a compression test, hot with open throttle, 8 bar on all 4. With a couple of squirts of oil brings it up to 10.5bar. It starts runs and drives ok. I plan to do a leakage test once back at work. The compressions seem low. What’s people thoughts? Anything to worry about? |

An Indigo drop in isn’t ideal mate. But in truth drop ins are not a great route so I’m not surprised it’s using oil.

The key point is that you're getting even readings across all cylinders. Did you do the test with a cold, warm or hot engine?
Doing a leakdown test is always going to be a good idea, so I would go ahead with that notwithstanding the consistency of pressure readings.

Readings are a touch low but consistent, do a leakdown test and see what happens.
Should be alrite to keep driving till you've got the money together to have it apart again. |

I’ve been thinking the same, as long as it’s doing no more harm I’ll keep using it. |

Do you know what oil was used when they fitted the pistons? Also did they do any mapping? I've had evos I've built go to gt and ended up over fuelling and glazing the bores. Usually upto .5ltr every 1k miles is acceptable.

A drop in piston on a old bore Will always be a short life engine hence why I don’t carry them out.
Do it properly the first time and it will give you many years of fun. Mark |

Yes, they mapped it. Wasn’t smooth. Car went back to them 3 times. I gave up and it’s since gone elsewhere and had a link fitted and mapped. It used oil since the build. |

if they have used the titan s from the go, the rings wouldnt of had any chance of bedding in and with the map id put money on the map being too rich and that causing the cylinders to glaze to use that much oil. with compression being even, id just keep an eye on the oil if still using, if wanted price to re-ring etc drop a pm.

I’ve been in talks with Norris designs who can supply pistons. I plan to pull mine out and have a hone and measure. Hopefully it won’t be damaged and need to pull it and rebore. Just need to find the time. |
