Interesting! I'm a bit shocked by this remark:

"The main takeaway here is that while the VI would be way outclassed by the most recent crop of hot hatches, it’s easily more thrilling."

Are those VW Golf R or Audi RS3 really faster everywhere? I would think with automatic gearboxes and launch control they are quicker off the line, but then? And in corners?

Thing is he’s comparing a 360 hp motor to a 280 hp one so it’s a touch inaccurate.

If he had driven a 360 hp TME would he still feel the same?

Interesting article but I thought the 280 bhp for the TME was a bit of an understatement on mitsibushi’s behalf.

Comparing a 6 to a 9 seems odd seeing as the changes/evolution in tech would ensure that they’re different animals.

Red tme’s still look awesome and have a better presence.

Surely the 9 is the better car, but the TME is more special.

He seems to be focussed quite a bit on straight line speed, which of course a stock TME is just not really going to feel special compared to your modern hot hatches. If he took out a modded one I think he might find it much more to his taste.

Interesting write up tho.

If the IX is not better then Mitsubishi need rehab, you can’t even compare either to modern Hot Hatches. Put the TME or IX up against it’s yearly equivalent Hot Hatch and then tell me. That’s like putting a 308 up against a 488, and yes the IX is probably the better car than the TME, just stick them on a twisty back road and see how much quicker it is then

Stock car against a modded car shocker. I know the 360 is a CCC upgrade, but essentially still a modded GSR from the factory.

Assume 280 for the TME and you have an 80hp deficit, it's a lot when you jump from one to another car. Same as the jump from 360>440.

I cant pay much attention to a journo who cant get the basics right anyway. Evo XI?

Stock TME has more like 300bhp, and frankly..owning both TME and E8 (2005), having taken them from stock to present spec..
Stock to stock, TME is far livelier chassis.
Powerwise, there cannot be much in it.

All these "journos" are self proclaimed: if Chris Harris said something, ok..he is experienced capable driver and journalits, but these silly people..no comment.

Yep these modern hot hatches are no joke and would be faster/quicker than the Stock TME everywhere.

Technology advancements are generally guaranteed, however driver experiences will always remain subjective

I find that hard to believe. I have driven a R and a RS3 and they did not feel faster through the corners than my TME. One things is for sure. They were fast, numb and clinical.

I should have used the word synthetic too.
