Maiden voyage went successfully (ignoring three black flags for excessive noise at 99.7db). A stunning evening at Donington yesterday. Particularly memorable moments were dispatching my first Ferrari and making the driver of an Ariel Atom wonder what f***ing brakes I must have on that Evo. Limiting factors were tyres, and having to run lower boost and short shift to keep the noise down (99.7 DBA - limit is 98 DBA), but still an amazing time was had by all - especially my Dad who sat in the passenger seat for 2 and a half hours and didn't go green.

Will I have problems at Donnigton then?

My exhaust was tested at castle Combe 97db at 4.5k revs I think

Awesome pic

Donington has become very difficult. I even got black flagged for short shifting on the straight

Had a big silencer put in the middle of the system to make it quite a bit quieter. Matt did mine so I'm sure he can sort you out

You may well do Moh. I was 99.7 and the limit there and on many tracks is 98.

This should do the trick. Beautifully made, and only £50. Resonated decat pipe from www.m2motorsport.co.uk. I'll let you know how well it fits.

Great thread, I remember you posting in the used car information about this actual car and hadn't seen this thread. Sterling effort (pun intended ), you've done most of the bits that I would do given enough time & money.

What tyres are you running?

That's what I had on mine when I was been kicked off. Not 100% sure it made much difference

Matt had to get me a bigger one made. What's the rest of your system

I saw this decat pipe muffler at MG's today, funnily enough. I have a tomei expreme 3" elbow, then the rest of the exhaust system is a combination of tomei and m2 motorsport 3" stainless pipes all the way to the unknown brand muffler. There is a resonator on the pipe after the decat pipe, but the decat pipe itself is not resonated at the moment. I only need to come down 1.5 DBA, so I'm making little changes initially, before changing the muffler if necessary. I want to do more track days, so have to do something about it.

I have some 18" x 9" rota boosts in anthracite with yokohama advan v105s tyres in 235/40/18 for street, and some enkei evo X 18 x 8.5" wheels, powder coated in neon yellow (same as the engine bay pipework) with Toyo R888R 245/40/18 for track. I had some Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R in 255/40/18 but never used them and am in the process of returning them.

Dave and Jordan fitted the resonated decat pipe this afternoon and my track wheels came back from the powder coaters looking awesome and still hot to the touch from being freshly baked. The car seems slightly quieter but the drop in noise is subtle. it has two resonated sections of exhaust now as well as the muffler so hopefully its enough to stay under the 98 Decibel radar.

I would imagine you would notice a hell of a difference with the resonated de cat

It sounds like it's eliminated some of the higher frequencies and is an overall softer sound, but only by about 10% I'd say. It's still pretty brutal to crouch down behind it to open the garage door when it's idling. I think it might be just inside the 98 DB limit, but only a trip to the track will tell. I'm hopeful though.

Noise test at MG gave some promising results. Peak noise level reading was 98.1 DBA then tested again a little later at 97.4 DBA so I'm hopeful. 18" x 8.5" Enkei Evo X Track wheels look awesome from the powdercoaters. Been practising Spa on the PS3 this evening in preparation for the trip in a couple weeks.

Just returned from a great trip to Spa and the ring with Team MG and friends. All cars and drivers came home in one piece. An epic trip, the absolute highlight of which was a couple laps riding with nearby neighbour Alan Blood (MLR member - Blood Speed) in his 8MR. Insane times with the nicest guys.
