Don't change your brake fluid for years while using the brakes heavily and you will end up with lots of water which will corrode the system. Alternatively it is a mechanical part and all mechanical parts will fail sooner or later give it time and/or lack of maintenance .

You can always try breakers... check US stores as well as they tend to have good prices, even with import duties and delivery.

Quite a few there, not sure if they ship abroad. What are the prices in U.K. as I have not checked?

Im just gathering prices now but thanks to your posts and links somethings definitely amiss with the price i was given over the phone as it was very considerably higher than those in your links. I shall have to go back to the garage today and see exactly what it is theyre on about. So thank you and the others for posting on this and helping me out. Appreciate it. I'll keep you informed as it progresses

What are the symptoms of the issue you have? I recently had experience of a problem that at one point suggested a faulty abs unit, but turned out to be something else. Does the part number of your current unit end "212"?

Keep getting asc and abs service required on display and abs and asc lights on dash while driving. But its intermittent and seemingly random. For instance drove to garage and from cold and for the 7mile journey no lights or symptoms everything good. Got there and ping on came tge "service required" messages for asc and abs and both lights appear on dash. Sometimes theyre on from start to finish. Which to me says its more likey to be a sensor than the entire oump to my mind if it was the pump itd ALWAYS be off?? I could be wrong tho. As for part number im unsure but will look as soon as i collect tge car either later today or tomorrow and will post up here.

Ok, in my experience a sensor failure would cause the service light to illuminate as seen a the ignition is switched on. Also, in those circumstances the warning light would stay illuminated and a fault would register in the ecu and only clear after intervention using diagnostic kit.

For the warning light to illuminate during vehicle movement suggests to me that the at least one of the four wheel speed is failing to receive an appropriate signal for whatever reason. The sensors take their signal from an embedded arrangement incorporated into the bearing assembly. I really don't know if these have any history of failing, but I guess it must be possible.

Another point to bear in mind is that if there is an issue with a wheel speed sensor it will have a knock-on effect to the rest of the SAYC system and shut it down.

As part of my research into what might have happened in my particular case I found a number of abs units for sale in the US at pretty reasonable prices (compared with a new unit). But if that does turn out to be what you need to replace I would be careful to ensure it is a like for like part number. And if you haven't already found the number on your unit, it is easily visible on the side of the unit - quite likely 4670A212.
