Well seen as tho all the rear was near done....thought is was not right not to do the front.

Arms/bearings/hubs suspension...all off.

Stripped then 2 good coats of upol raptor liner...sorry forgot to take pics...

Built up with vapour blasted arms, new bolts, drop links, track rod arms etc

Next up was my brakes....my alcon 365 were not looking great after years of abuse.....so a mini freshen up....pistons removed and cleaned and calipers painted with new stickers and high temp lacquer....who knows how long they will last but might get a full refurb later down the line

Bit of a project.....uprating the breather system and rocker cover

Bought another rocker cover to try it out...

Letters smoothed off totally and -8AN fittings welded on...

Baffles removed and cleaned...then sent for media and vapour blasting

Catch can modified with -8AN fittings...

Painted satellite silver, baffles refitted with rtv sealer and rivets....

Brand new evo X dump valve

Ceramic coated rocker cover/plug cover...everything

Next up....the biggie....suspension.

Seen as tho my car is 80% used on track, then now was the time for some top new stuff.

My tein super racing rs suspension had been brilliant to be fair on track for 12 years!...solid on the road...but time to try something new...(plus tein wanted nearly 2k to refurb them and that didnt include painting them)..so they would come back with all flakey paint..who comes up with these prices! brand new they are £2400 now.

So...narrowed it down to kw clubsports.......or.....these beauties!..bought!!
(thanks to dave at track formula who talked me through it all)

Nitron R1...with custom spring rates set up for my needs

Even comes with colour coded polystyrene

way too nice to hide under the car!

And of course....3 coats of ceramic coating for extra protection and gloss.

Rears fitted...

Fair effort Phil!

You changing engine spec much at all or just going for a thorough refresh?

By any chance do you have the part number of the BMW panel bond?

It will be a rebore mate,new oil pump etc...bigger pistons...same oliver rods...brand new 80 series..1.9 bar

Id love cams as its on 8MR cams and more mapping....but costs are big as it is. The "not planned" refresh and nitrons were ££££.

Cams and a map would only get probably 20-25 bhp and move the power band further up the rev range.

ill try get you the panel bond number and pm you.

What pistons are in there now? Aftermarket or OE? Might be worth looking into some different ring packages that are available - some interesting gains are to be had.

I was in the process of stripping my IX down for an underbody resto so that stuff you have used may come in handy in some places so will appreciate that

It's fully forged mate...8mr engine.. JE pistons.. Oliver rods.

So will need bigger Pistons after a 0.5 rebore again.

Ring packages? Gains?

Send Lake Speed JR @ Total Seal a message.
Rings “ain’t just rings” any more. They are using better materials, getting thinner to reduce friction and improve seal. They now even do a gas ported top ring! I suppose it’s all relative to application though.

I’ve got some bare ND JE pistons for my build and will likely do something different with the rings whilst I can.

Great work Phil.

It’s interesting that you have ended up redoing it. I used rust bullet on mine first off, but just days after application I wasn’t happy with how it had keyed to the body of the car. I removed it and started again with etch primer and gravitex then over painted in satellite silver. That Has lasted well so far.
