Evo 8 or 9?

Guys Iím looking at buying a evo 9 but it's proving difficult to source a nice example but I see there is plenty more choice with the 8. So Iím now considering an 8 also.

I know the differences in regards to cosmetic differences but Iím more interested in the running gear & particularly the engine. Barring the mivec in the 9 is there any other main difference with the engines in terms of reliability & ability to cope with power upgrades? Iíve read the thread on model differences / specifications, which is really helpful but wanted some further advice. Also opinions on anyone thatís owned both & their views...

Thanks

I’ve owned both and think I genuinely prefer to own the Evo 8, especially the 8 MR.

Prefer the front and rear bumpers on the 8. Also, the 8 rear spoiler is Eisien grey, and has carbon down the inside instead of just the blade.

Never been a fan of the colour coded spoiler or silver wheels found on the 9.

How does the MR compare to the RS? Is the RS a more stripped out raw version?

Yea.

Import a fresh one if you want to be sure it's properly rust free.

I personally prefer the 8.. but the IX has mivec which is a pull. To be fair just try and get a good Evo, that’s a challenge these days

I'm biased but 9GT. Seats are not quite as nice as 8MR IMO but it has all the creature comforts of a GSR with the mechanical bits of an RS. Mivec is nice to have but the OE GT turbo is a bit of a weak spot if upping the boost.
Rear bumper on a 9 is much better than an 8, personally I prefer the 9s bumper without the nose too.

Thanks @Mita. Iím beginning to think this too. Iím going to keep an open mind. I have a budget of around 18-22k so hopefully I can find something nice within that bracket.

I tend to agree, I prefer the 9 seats & bumpers but I think Iím going to buy off condition rather than just model. Ideally a 9MR but I think thatís going to be out of my budget.

The IX is the better car, there's nothing really to debate there, just depends if you're willing to wait for an example you like, as others have said your ultimate choice is likely to be driven by availability.

I have my heart set on a IX but they seem to be thin on the ground. Iím happy to wait for the right one to come along.
