Evo 9 or focus rs mk3 or a45 facelift

Which would you go for?

I've been seriously looking for an evo now for over a year and I'm kind of at the end of my search. Come August if I don't see one I like I might just get an rs or a45.

What do use think? Should I wait a bit more or patch it because it's becoming so hard to find a decent one?

All nice cars but the E9 is a very old car now compared to the others and with that come all the age related surprises and issues etc.

Finding a good E9 now is getting harder and the current ones out there seem to be rare or not for sale.

Never driven any of them but that should be your starting point that will help you sway a decision.

The Focus is a nice looking motor and like all RS Fords should hold it's value well.

What A45, the AMG model?

Don't rule out the Audi RS3. Awesome cars.

I have owned an A45 and it is such a boring car compared to the Evo X i own now. Very fast but the 4wd system makes it such a boring car to drive fast that i sold it after 7 months.

MK3 RS is a very nice car to drive, the manual gearbox helps, but i dont fancy the looks which is why i went for the Evo X. The MK3 RS is quite similar to the Evo in the way it gets the back end out and adjust mid corner etc. I haven't just went on a test drive i have actually driven the RS in anger in Wales as a relative of mine owns one.

RS3 to drive they are a little bland but the engine makes an absolutely wonderful noise!! for that reason alone i want to own one after the Evo.

Personally, I would go for the RS Mark 3,over any evo, been out in Ant's at indigo, lovely car. If I had the money, would not hesitate to swap my 10 for one.

If you go for a mk3 rs make sure it’s had the head gasket recall done. Some owners are having absoloute nightmares getting it done.

I have had owned evo 8,9 and now a 10. Also lucky enough to have a new Focus RS. The RS has the same planted feel of an EVO X and similar performance to an x 360 but a 6th gear....its not as raw as an evo 8 or 9.

Can highly recommend the RS and its a better everyday car than an Evo x. Audi rs3 also nice but apart from the engine a bit sterile...

I have had a few 9's, and i have driven a 400bhp Focus RS.

For driving pleasure i would take the Evo 9 every time.
Focus is a nice all rounder, but just did not feel that quick and did not excite me.
Plus the front end looks like a fish.

Regards A45 AMG, i would take a Golf R over that everytime, although not as quick they just feel more engaging and are very tuneable.
I have Gary's from APT at the minute, which is 500bhp and has had various handling/brake upgrades and it is simply bloody fantastic!

I bought a brand new Mk3 Focus RS just over a year ago after selling my Evo IX.

I sold the Mk3 Focus RS about 6 weeks ago.

Get the Evo.

The Audi RS3 is not really a drivers car - and the comments of "sterile" are spot on.
The AMG A45 inhabits the same space as the RS3. Quick, but sterile.

Get the Evo.

PS - if you really want to press me I can give you a hole host of reasons why I got rid of the Focus, but didn't want to open with a wall of text.

What this man said , I too had a Red Edition itís now gone and Iíve get to pull out a 9GT when ever I want and itís a much much better Car than the RS for many reasons

RS3 sounds amazing with sports exhaust but other than that pretty dull and AMG the same in my opinion

had an evo x, got nicked so went for a test drove a mountune rs mk3 - wasnt too impressed.

made all the right sounds and looks great... cabin was nice to sit in and much more modern than the x ever was.

but didnt float my boat so opted for an audi s4 instead with a few goodies.... and thats been a revelation

How does the golf r compare to the evo 9?

Obviously most 9ís are running around the 400 mark,so arenít comparable power wise, but the balance, grip and the way the evo eats up a B road would seem to be in a different league to a Haldex based 4wd system.

Iím interested to hear some opinions from someone who has driven both in anger, although I donít want to incriminate you as youíre driving someone elseís car
