At end of the day we dont all like a car in red being totally honest. The upside of this price rise in TME s is that it appears to be across the entire Evo range. So even a TME in another colour is going to command a higher price aswell and it is happening at an astonishing rate especially in the last 18months.
I personally dont think we have seen this happen with a modern mass produced sports car in quite the same way.
Its not because they are rare i think the Evo has an iconic following similar to Sierra Cosworths/Escort Cosworths BUT i think the difference is that the Evo was ahead of its time .
So now we have an iconic car that is getting rarer each year no matter what and prices tbh i think will go up across the board with even an Evo 6 gsr in good condition hitting 25k a few yrs from now .A Makinen in good condition non red probably 35k plus and the red TME i seriously think 50k easy as already near that now so probably higher.

Yes prices have increased however not EVERY red tme will command a £45k price tag. You will get rough ones / high mileage / repaired / colour change etc which no doubt some sellers (dealers) will overprice just to jump on the band wagon but how many will actually sell is the key question.

I think the prices are just a getting going

I've only bought a makinen recently, got it yesterday in fact but I really do think they're very special. I've been driving a mclaren all day and had to just have a blast in the makinen when I got home (first drive) and it really is great fun to drive and I can see and believe just how quick it would be from point to point in the real world

DCY put the price of their white one up £4K today and I can see why

The 22B has gone to £100k now and this is probably the next closest thing and has pedigree and it will gain in value as escort Cosworth's and sierras are now £35-45k

Last year a p1 was £8-9k and now they're £15k

I don't know the makinen market as much as many of you but I do know they're cheap for what they are - hence why I put my money where my mouth is and bought one

YET Another how much is my car worth thread :bored:

90% of the threads on here are getting like:

1) discussions of car value
2) look at my car in my garage

there are variations like:
It's passed it's MOT (well I only did 10 miles since last year so - dah what you expect),
I washed it, it's clean now (well it will be if you wet it and used soap when dirty before)
I'm thinking of getting one but I only have a honda jazz and I am 20 and dreaming and dont know puntuation or spelin or any insurance companies but I know....

sorry I am ranting lol

My car is going up in value too. SO WHAT. I don't intend on selling and don't look at it as an investment sat in the Garage. Life is too short for that. Look after them but enjoy them while you still can. :smthumbup

A car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it based on the condition of the car and how much the buyer wants it. End of.

:mitsi:Foreva

I have to say that Pete's car looks stunning in those photos - just lovely - only decent thing about the thread tbh

So don't like me using the forum to respond with positive helpful advice on your other threads rather than a non-comittal vacuous answer. As in I am actually using the forum for what it was intented ;)

As in when you ask about side stripes and plate sizes I give you a factual answer not opinion...

A TME whilst an ionic car will NEVER be in the same class as a 22B, completely different levels and current prices of both cars of the same age clearly reflect this. Not to mention there were 2500 maks produced compared to 400 22Bs. Not knocking the TME at all as I like them but I can see the bubble bursting as with all classic cars especially with talk of interest rates rising.
To have made good money out of them you needed to buy a good while ago , not now in my opinion.

I thought the bubble was going to burst over a year ago. The reason why it hasn't is simple.

The industry is focusing on automated, hybrid and electric SUVs - big time. It doesn't matter about the government target of 2040, the auto industry will get there far sooner. The manual gearbox has made a minor comeback in recent years but this is really the last hurrah. I know some people in the car industry and they reckon full automation is 10 years away tops. That's bugger all really. Can't be done with a manual gearbox so that's toast finally.

You only have to see what Mitsubishi have done, canned performance cars, switched over to eco SUVs, seems to be working well for them. We'll never see B-road shredding saloon cars like the Evo series again. Many great Evos, the early ones are criminally undervalued, V and VI too in my opinion. But the TME will always be the pick of the earlier cars, it's the last and many would agree it's the best.

Anyone who's been waiting for the bubble to burst for the last 18 months is still waiting. The same car will cost them more now.

It is that JJPS but there's more to it than that

Pensions freedom means almost average blokes have access to 25% of their pension at age 55 which can be £25k for anyone that has bothered even to save a modest amount

Bank accounts are giving no interest so why bother leaving it in cash

You can get a personal loan for 3.9% so it costs £30pm ish interests on borrowing £10k - peanuts really

You can remortgage your house at 1.99% so borrowing £10k costs £15pm ish

Cars are now being seen as a tangible form of investment as distrust of banks and other investments leave people looking for another home for your money

Also, frankly, £15k isn't much money nowadays to a lot of people. Granted, it is to young people but if you're 30+ and have managed to save a few hundred quid a month for a few years you have it saved already. Most TME owners will be 30+ I'd have thought

Compare it to other similar cars from a few years prior e.g. Escort cosworth, integrate etc and you'll see not only is this car quicker but it's half or even a third of the price of one of those. Hence people look at what else is out there other than Cosworth's and the 80s/ early 90s stuff

Why bother having £20k in the bank getting £200 per year interest when you could have a rally car for the road in your garage? Whether you make money or not is a moot point but many people, myself included, fee it's worth it if you don't lose a fortune. It's more fun!

People will disagree but I put my money where my mouth is and I've so far seen the following

A red one go for £46k at auction beating estimates
DCY increasing the asking price of one of theirs by £4K
A white one selling for £19k via another importer
SVA selling one within 3 hours of it coming on the market

I know they used to be available for £8-10-12k a few years ago and now they're double that and still rising

Factor in classic insurance and so on and they're a bit of a no brainier for me

If you sold though what would you replace it with?

#33 · (Edited)
its this simple - we cant replace the white 6 tme - so would rather keep it - will be cheap if we reduce it back and would sell in a day , spring next year - the amount left for sale in japan is near on non existant - standard ones and decent mileage and decent grade that is - so not replaceable.

#35 ·
We are just seeing everything 90's sporty - limited number cars in japan vanishing faster than I thought they would and when the good ones do come up make huge money - more than people would want to give for them here ,as it takes people here 6 months/12 months for it to sink in at least (price wise) no disrespect of course.

for example a private site we use to look at only, which japan dealers advertise on too. 1-2 years ago you could pull up 3-6 red tme's and 20 other colours - today NONE , to me that says it all:smthumbup:)

From what you read above from Barry @ DCY and lets face it he knows the deal on this then that white TME imho would be cheap even at 30k .I hadnt even taken into account the fact that the USA public cant even import an evo 6 yet .There is supposedly a lot of people wanting one over in the States and they cant have them for 8yrs yet.
So this all means that even a poor example is going to rise in price like you would not believe.

#38 ·
Agree, the R32 prices have started to rise quite a lot now as these can be imported into the USA.
Once the Evo 6 inc the TME reach 22 years old I think this is when they can land over there.
Will be very interesting to see what sort of money they go for.
