Evo 6 - tweeter placement???

I'm planning on fitting a set of component speakers in the front of my Evo 6. I would like to fit the tweeters into the upper forward section of door cards, kinda behind and below the door-mirrors, but not sure if this is possible due to the inner door framework itself sitting behind the doorcards

For Evo 6 versus tweeter placement - has anyone done this or knows where is the optimum spot might be?

I know they could be surface mounted in their own separate enclosures - onto the dash-top beside the a-pillars; on the a-pillars, themselves; or even, at a push, fitted on the outside of the door mirror access panel. However, those options would look rubbish, so I'm looking for a way to flush fit if at all possible.

Any pointers would be gratefully received

Yours Aye

Mark H

I'm pretty sure I've seen images of tweeters in the position you are proposing. And there may even be some images on the MLR as the car in question (a 6 Extreme) featured in a for sale ad. I'll see if I can find it.

Hi Mark.

I have a set of Kenwood Tweeters in the position you are talking about, they were there when I bought the car though so I canít really advise on how to fit them. I will take a picture for you later.

Found this pic. The positioning in the back of the mirror wasn't quite as I was recollecting, or as you are thinking, but it's certainly an option and would mirror (excuse the pun!) where they go as OE on the X.

Yup that's an option - depending on how "deep" the tweeter enclosures that I buy turn out to be...
I'm pretty sure that the whole structure is a lot more petite on a VI compared to a X (much slender a-pillars, much smaller triangle), making the add-on look a bit more pronounced, but the picture isn't too bad I suppose.

Ideally, I'd like to keep the mirror area clear so that I can access the mirror assembly without any extra obstructions of my own making!

Thanks for the replies so far

Cheerz

I also like the look of those door card cloth inserts - the stitching is similar to something I've been thinking of doing to my VI - but only in my mind's eye, so that picture is great to confirm what I was imagining doing on mine :thumbup

Here you go mate. A couple with the door closed and one with it open to show the placement. Very snug when the door is closed.

Mine are on the triangle panels for the door mirror access. They look fine. The VI interior isn't exactly plush anyway so

That's quality - thanks for posting.

As I suspected, there is door frame metalwork just behind the door cards - so the speakers need to be quite shallow. Either that, or drill into the metal behind.

Thanks for the pictures - helps a lot

No problem, at a guess my tweeters are about an inch deep behind the flange and don’t foul, the door hasn’t been cut!

Just a thought

Could you mount twitters (sic) in/on to the screen A post covers ?

That's how the're fitted as part of the CT9A six speaker option, also it's two less wires going through the door loom grommet
