Hi Balmmy,

I bought the same model a year last May, I wasn't going to have it tuned but then did and it's a different car now (for the better!)

As far as things to look out for, there are several threads covering this in detail on the forum, however, I feel the main points are as follows -

# A good history of the car is always a good start.
# AYC pumps, the majority seemed to have failed at anywhere between 20/50k miles (mine was just about to go and so I've had a reconditioned one fitted/ relocated into the boot) Check the specific post about this problem for more info.
# knocking noise from one side or the other on front suspension at very slow speeds = normally worn shocks, I had this, you can spray them with white lithium grease but it does return, just had mine replaced with reconditioned ones = cured.
# Check it has the uprated fuel pump relay (just checked my invoice, no part number! have a look on Indigo GT's website or thread on here)
# Usual corrosion underneath.
# Recalls - mine had a recall for the drive belts/pulleys, I think there may have been other recalls but I'm not sure what as they must have been done prior to me buying the car.
# I have read that all the cars where made in 2008, mine is a 59 plate and the paint is hysterically thin.
# Road rash on front of rear arches (and lots of other places now! see above)
# Not unique to X's but my wheel alignment was way off, garage managed to break 2 bolts that needed adjusting due to rust - worth knowing.

I'm sure that I've forgotten lots.

As I mentioned earlier there are other posts on this topic that are worth a look, if you have any questions just ask.

Good luck.

Talking Great!

Firstly thank you for your reply. I really do appreciate it!!! I've owned an evo 6 in the past but ready for a more modern machine now. The car is a 58 Reg. I have put a deposit on the car literally today. The car is a one owner car from new and has covered 35k. It has a full Mitsubishi service history and I have asked the same dealership who services the car in June to do a diagnostic check and take a look at the condition of the ayc - as you say. I've also asked them to check the timing chain for stretch. I hope to get it on Thursday of this week but I will keep you informed. The front bumper has I believe been resorted to remove stone chips!

Thanks

You're welcome Balmmy, I forgot to mention the timing chain upgrade! I wasn't sure if mine had been upgraded when I bought the car (I broke lots of buying rules with mine!) turned out it had, but it was seeping oil from the timing chain cover which is apparently very hard to refit/seal, again, worth knowing about.

Yours sounds a good find having low mileage/one owner and full service history.

Oh, just remembered, you need to make sure that the vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold to the fuel pressure regulator is cable tied down to stop it blowing off and causing lean running.

Out of interest, what colour is the one you are getting?

Hi...

I picked the car up on Thursday!!! I have to say the was better than I expected. I had a ralliart mechanic (who had services the car all its life) to do a diagnostic on the car! All passed. He actually owns a cool silver evo X the same as the one I bought. I'll pop some pictures on ... To say I'm a delighted is an understatement! I gave the car a good drive out. I was really surprised at how easy the car was to drive and compared to my old rehmis 6 a heck of a lot more comfortable and refined. The average miles per gallon on the way back up north from London was 31.4mpg amazing!
