fun with clio V6

Anyone else had a dabble with a clio V6?

I was out in my VII yesterday and happened to see a guy out in his clio V6.

It looked the part, I really like the v6 and very nearly bought one instead of the VII.

I was hoping he would have a go, cos i I was keen to see if the VII would be faster, as it is on paper.

Anyway, he went for it away from the lights and I am pleased to say that the evo was in a different class. The V6 engine on the clio sounded very good. I pulled away a few lenghts by each gear change and by the time we were doing about 120 and I slowed down...he was a long way behind.

He then came past me at well over 120 with a big grin on his face and gave me a nod...He then waved and turned off and went the other way.

Good fun, and I was happy to see that the VII showed the V6 who was boss in a straight line. Not really even close, which surprised me as the clio has a lot of power for a small car...

All on a private road, of course.

The clio might be small but it does weigh quite a lot. The phase1 V6 does 0-60 in around 6secs, not really a match for an evo.

Saying that, they do look the part.

Nice one, I really like the looks and sound of the Clio V6 but the performance and handling leave a lot to be desired. The MK2 version is improved, specially in the handling department as the first one was impossible to drive on the limit without spinning.
I'm not suprised you left it for dead in a straight line, and if you had hit the twisties he would have been even further back. You can't even compare the Evo to the Clio, they are worlds apart!
The Clio may be based on a small light hatch but after it's metamorphosis it weighs 1335kg and has 230BHP.
Personally I'd rather own a Clio Cup!

Me too

In evo mag the cup was quicker on track than the phase1 v6. Which isn't good when you compare the prices.

This won't be the case with the latest version as it is quite a bit quicker. 250ish bhp does 0-60 in just under 6secs if my brain is functioning after the bank holiday weekend

A mate of mine sold his TME for a Clio V6... just to sell it after a month or so to get an STI Prodrive.

The new clio v6 looks really kewl to be honest with a 0-60 of 5.8 secs. Not in the evo class but it does look nice. Although at £27,000 id much prefer an evo anyday.

a bit off the clio topic but,

when i was going to TOTB this year a ferrari f355 past me so i floored it and as we got to about 110- 120 i was starting to pull away a wee bit but we caught up with other traffic.

is this normal for an evo to be faster than a f355

i thot so as well thats why i was surprised

i was at 80mph and he was passing at around 85-90mph so i accelerated and so did he then i started to edge infront of him.

**** knows how i did.

but i'll probably never get that chance again to go for it with one

im no boasting about it, just wondering if anyone else has had experience of the same.

No but had a bit of fun with a 360 F1 ( Could see the paddles ) He chased me from sutton to tolworth then onto the A3 - I was not pulling away from him probally due to his quick gear changes but as we went on to the A3 he overtook me on the outside lane which was on the chevrons - Dust everywhere - COMPLETE LUNATIC ( No respect for his 6 figure Motor ) Good fun though
