Welcome to my thread for my evo 5 GSR ! :smthumbup
Starting this thread late, nearly a year late in fact, so i apologise for all my posts to start with whilst i catch up
Moving on up from my starlet glanza v, after an evo being a dream car since a young lad, and keeping an eye out for 'the right one' i finally came across this evo so arranged to view.
Bought the car sept 18 as a fresh import from Guy Fransis Specialist Cars. Very clean car with no rust and pretty much stock which is what i was looking for as good base to start from. Oh and with a few ralliart goodies :smthumbup
Came with full jap service history and the warranty paper work!
Russ fellows cat back exhaust system came next.
Then was time to get the car booked in at MG Autos for an 18k and 45k service and underseal, 2 new top mounts, rear diff bushes and wheel allignment. Top job from matt and dave :smthumbup
New godseep g hook disks and kevlar pads for all round and a good cut and polish was needed !
Replaced the old tired looking blue steering wheel for a lovely, slightly smaller 330mm sparco wheel :coolsm:
Engine bay needed bit of a freshen up! Off with the old tired carbon kevlar covers and on with some nice fresh carbon ones :smthumbup
Manifold heat shield was looking old and manky so replaced with a new cusco one along with some new red rad hoses!
Looks much better !
Plans to go for a little more power, so ordered an m2 3" downpipe and decat. Still waiting to go on just before mapping when the time comes :bored:
Recently had new inner tie rod and track rod end for the front and had the rear toe arm polybushed before its MOT due to a bit of play so will be needing to get the alingnment set up again
Since the MOT front driveshaft doesnt sound so healthy, but sourced a nice clean low milage one and is currently on its way :smthumbup
Came home from work to some post today too, evo 9 recirc valve ready to go on when i get a fe mins spare
I have now finally fitted the evo 9 recirc, just need to get some new hoses for it as they dont look in the best form. Also the replacement drive shaft turned up at the start of the week
Also turns out a year ago today i bought the evo :smthumbup
Little update, finally got around to putting the drive shaft in start of this week, abs sensor decided it wanted to be corroded and snap off :frust:, so had to drill it out, new sensors on its way
Another update  abs sensor now on and shes now shut up in the workshop for winter for some more progress to be made. Had a strange ticking/rattling noise coming from the turbo, so off it came for a look over.
Have found some play in the wastegate which would be the answer to the noise. Also found some very slight play in the compressor wheel and turbine wheel along with some oil residue ! :shake: will be sending off in the next week or 2 for a full rebuild :smthumbup
Will have a nice fresh turbo for mapping whenever that will be ....
Nice delivery today, got the turbo back from midland turbo :coolsm:
Serviced, work on the wastegate flapper, new turbine wheel and compressor wheel, top job and didnt take as long as expected !
Took the week off work this week and got myself over to the workshop to make some progress on the evo
Tubo is now back on, along with an m2 elbow and the m2 3" down pipe that i got a while back.
Got some new hoses for the recirc valve to replace the old slightly split ones and sprayed the fan whilst the rad was out, looks much better now in my opinion !
And of course fresh oil and filter and some fresh coolant
Soon be time for a map when it comes back out and the weathers better
Another couple of little bits to add to the evo
Carbon cooling panel
And found some pics of the car when at auction back in japan so had a plate made up to match! JDM points :coolsm:
Went back over to the workshop today after a couple of months, fitted the carbon cooling plate and took it for a little spin around the block. Just waiting for the better weather now !
Need to get it booked in for mapping at somepoint and will be looking at getting a set of coilovers soon, torn between the meisters and bc's, thinking more meisters :naughty:
Picked the evo up from simon nortons yesterday after dropping it off their last weekend, serviced rear diff clutch packs, walbro 255, 3 port and simon worked his magic, along with pops and bangs on switch. Goes well and pops and bangs sound great :smthumbup
Not been on here for a while, time for an update !
Found myself set of HSD monopro coilovers the other month, second hand, done less than a thousand and only 8 months old like new, was originally looking at meisters but these came up at a decent price and like new so thought id give them ago. Still awaiting fitting
Also gave the car a 'deep clean' today trying to kill a few hours whilst weve got this lockdown going on. Also whilst the seats were out i decided to have the passenger seat appart and sew up where stitching had come appart when i bought the car.
Much better now, cant tell it came appart :smthumbup
Also took some step by step pics of taking the bottom part of the seat appart if anyones interested?
