Ball joint problem on front suspension arm Evo 6 tme
Well, another problem for me and my evo 6 tme. Bought some evo 5 ball joints for the front suspension arms here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MITSUBISH...53.m2749.l2649
And sure enough it won't fit. It scores the arms: ![]() I've used 10T to press the ball joint in and it won't go further. Anyone else experienced this? ![]() Last edited by madmatt; 19-10-2020 at 17:33.. |

Weve had a few customer call in with same issue some even cracking the arms trying!
Mitsi dont offer a OE replacement BJ's so Im not sure what these ebay guys are supplying. Only option for 5 & TME is replacement wishbones as official service option.

Post a picture up of your arm Matt.
As Ross says full arm is the easiest option but you can push certain ball joints into the arms. Obviously not oem though |

I thought the evo 6 had the ball joints in the knuckles, are you putting evo 5 arms on there? If you haven't put the old ones back in, you could try putting the ball joint in the freezer and the arm somewhere warm in the house for a bit, and go over the mating surface with a scotch pad to remove some of the paint

IIRC TME has ball joint in the arm, like later cars...

Yes, the TME used Evo 5 arms, I'd be interested to know why; weight, cost, some other reason.
The Evo 6 arms give a lower roll centre which should be better from a handling perspective but do increase the unsprung weight when compared to the Evo 5 arm. |

No difference in unsprung weight, and ball joint in the arm means higher roll centre which is actually better, esp on a lowered car.. The later cars had ball joints positioned lower and lower..

In what way does raising the rollcentre improve things? Thanks ![]() |

Position of the roll centre influences how much the car will roll/lean in a corner. Better said it is the distance between the centre of gravity and roll centre that defines the roll moment. The larger the distance between centre of gravity to the roll centre, the more the car will lean in the corner. Now. the real issue is that mcpherson suspension has the roll centre that is not fixed in relation to the car / centre of gravity, but moves with suspension movement. If the axis between the outer ball joint and inner arm joint is close to horizontal that movement will get quite large which is not the best for handling. This is the reason that lowering the car on its own usually makes the handling worse *****ill you stiffen the springs and ARB). Most of the lowered competition cars will have a corrected roll centre, via the extended bottom ball joints or different uprights.

i replaces loads of ebay bottom ball joints
never had any issues , from your pic tho you need to see bright metal like the few MM you can see then it should go home ,plenty fo grease and she should jusy slip straight in there ,there a tight fit ,obviously but trying to push pass dirt and grime isnt going to help ,and will only lead to a cracked arm |
