Another servicing/tuning option is AP Tuning near Norwich.
There are lots of thread on here about things to check/look out for. One of the first/most important is to ensure the fuel pump relay has been changed. And even if it has, I would still pop in a brand new one just to be on the safe side.
Also, has the timing chain ever been changed? All the early Xs have or once had a chain that can stretch and potentially lead to contact with a vital oil squirter, and if that happens it's likely the end of the engine!
Most other things to look out for would have most relevance before rather than after buying eg has the AYC/ACD pump been replaced? Also, have you had a good look underneath the car, because they are just as prone to rusting as earlier Evos, especially to the subframes.
The X has a timing chain rather than a belt (ie different to all the earlier Evos). Checking for stretch is theoretically possible using a MUT 3 tool, but a more reliable way is to whip off the rocker cover and make a visual inspection from above. A tensioner forces the chain to bulge towards the centre of the engine and it's the extent of that bulge that would give a trained eye all they need to know about how much stretch has occurred. If your pretty certain it hasn't been changed already I would advise cutting to the chase and simply getting it done. A specialist like APT will have done loads of them and therefore have the job down to a fine art. Nevertheless, expect to pay up to £1k!
As a postscript, what year is you car? I think I'm right in saying that the timing chain stretch issue was solved on later manufactured cars, although even those registered in eg 2010 and 2011 were most likely built in 2007 and 2008. The tag on the front seat belt (bottom of B pillar) will confirm.
The AYC/ACD pump is very poorly sited ie just behind the offside rear wheel, and therefore prone to corrosion and premature failure. A new one from Mitsi is (or used to) around £2,000 (£1,674 from RossSport), but there are cheaper alternative options including part exchanging for a refurbed unit or even having your current one rebuilt. The good thing is that the car will still run perfectly ok with the pump removed (but you need clearly need to respect the fact that you don't have AYC or ACD!) and this simplifies going down the lengthier process of opting for a rebuild.
Removing the rear subframe is not an especially difficult job, and it can then be sent away to be shot blasted and powder coated.
Yes to the pump being re-sited in the boot. Autotorque do a kit, but it's a bit pricey imo (£400ish?), but I'm pretty sure there was a thread from earlier in the year by someone who had made something cheaper.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
