Question Downstairs lights issue (home)

I was wondering if anyone might be able to assist. We are having a issue with some of our downstairs interior lights. If I try and give you a brief outline of the problem - I will try my best to describe it!

Downstairs in the hall we have a 3 gang light switch which:
The left switch operates the downstairs hall lights (2 units)
The middle switch operates the upstairs landing lights (2 units)
The right hand switch operates an outdoor welcome/security light (this light is one which stays dimmed all night and brightens when the sensor is activated)

Upstairs lights work fine
Downstairs light work fine

Apart from:
When the outdoor light switch is on (and the light comes on) plus then the downstairs hall lights are then turned on - the outdoor light goes out.
When the downstairs hall lights are turned off, the outdoor light comes back on, however . . . .

after the outdoor light comes on, both the downstairs hall lights come on on their own accord, but at a dim, but very noticeable level. This is with their switch being in the off position.

Hope I have described it well? - any ideas? Its seem a really weird problem!!!

Cheers

Id start with replacing the 3 gang switch, maybe try a cheap basic one first if the originals are more expensive ornamental versions

While the switch is off, look for any sign of damage to wire casings, or signs of arcing

You seem to cobble things together . . .

Back on topic, may I assume that the hall and upstairs lights have two way switching. aka up/down etc

My first thought is that the "electronic" exterior light is dying, not unknown!
Totally disconnect this light and see what happens

Strappers are wrong or may even be switching a neutral

Cannot see any damage to the main switch, I have tightened all the the screws up - its just a normal plain white switch.

you can switch the upstairs lights on from the ground but not switch the downstairs lights off when upstairs - the switches upstairs are only 1 gang, which is a bit of a pain! The interior light is not that old, but I guess could still be faulty

My first thoughts were switching a neutral but I’ve been an electrician for 17 years and couldn’t tell you how to sort it without looking at it

Has it always been like that or just started??

If its always been like that then incorrectly wired, if it's just started then you have a fault somewhere (obviously).

thats the problem, i'm not sure

I have a new outdoor light on order so will try that first as the one that is currently up is a light which comes on at night stays dimmed and then lights up full power when sensor is activated so wondering if it has gone wrong

I will they try that and if that does not work, I will take pictures of the switch etc

thanks

One light fitting in the hall has Philips LED units and the other light fitting has standard G9 bulbs in it.

I fitted a new outdoor light today that just sensors when someone is near and comes on in the dark - it has not changed anything - still has the same problem, so don't think it is my wiring up of the light

I will take a picture of the back of the main light switch in a couple of days as need to get on with college work and not be messing around with house lights!!!! (apartly)

Change out the LED units for normal lamp types and see what happens
