Top mount turbo

At the minute my evo 9 fq340 is pretty much standard in terms of performance, I want to start doing afew bits and looking at exhaust manifolds. I really like the look of top mount turbo set ups and wondered if you could get one to work with oem turbo or if there was any of turbo, I.e Garrett or precision or something that was pretty much the same as oe spec? As top mount manifold either tend to be t3,t4 or vband?

Hey Lewis,

Not enough back ground here about what the car will be used for (street/track days/competition/Posing) ?and what are your goals?

Where are you based? so members can point you to a reputable tuner unless you plan to do yourself? What are the current mods?

From my Evo owning experience I always try persuading myself "thats it no more mods" but the bug gets the best of me. When you cost up the price of the top mount turbo setup for little to no power gain (Seen as your looking at turbos with your current OEM spec) I personally think whats the point when you can buy a higher rated turbo for a similar price.

Please don't take this personally, What i'm trying to say here is in my head i'm thinking "this persons going to go top mount straight off the bat with no supporting mods and add another EVO to the scrap pile, if your going to spend that kind of money for the looks i do hope you plan to make sure all the supporting mods are also installed." but instead i'll say to you it's your money you do what you want with it.

My 9 FQ 340 was bog standard to which i modified with a 3 port,de-cat & fuel pump pushed the power to 400bhp (410lb/ft). A year later got bored and modified to a healthy 470bhp (420lb/ft) with only the supporting mods and OEM turbo mod with a peace of mind if i do for a bigger turbo i'll be confident and good for up to 550bhp.

My advice personally would be get in touch with a reputable tuner discuss what you want to do and take it from there.

Ross sport would be the best people to approach for the parts and sound for advice.

Hope it goes well and try gets some pictures up if you do go ahead with the setup.

Another things to bear in mind will be the chain reaction:

Manifold + Turbo = Changing intercooler pipes (Short route kit), battery relocation, Slim line fan

I think these would be the minimal parts to think about also changing when deciding.

Additionally some good drop in rod packaging from specialists on MLR is worth thinking about too..
