Personal import

I'm thinking of going the personal import route for a 6rs but have some reservations about buying a car I won't get to see or drive until it arrives on my doorstep.call me old fashioned but this just seems a bit of a gamble...
Or is there some kind of guarantee that I will get a good clean car??
Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated

Use Imeka Cars who are/were a trader on here. They are based in Japan.

Good luck trying to get into Japan. They wont even let people who live there in the country let alone someone wanting to look at a car .

A long time ago now but I used Miguel at Newera imports to get me a Subaru Forester, excellent service and he made sure I knew what was happening every step of the way. But, a long time back now.
Good Luck.
Brian.

Be very careful Loman on your import journey, DO NOT get caught up on the whole underside picture scenario because it is an import.

Make sure whoever you use gets you proper HD pictures of the rest of the car including the underside. Especially the interior, each individual door panel, each individual seat, carpet, dashboard, head cloth.

Exterior again each individual panel, roof, bonnet, boot lid, bumpers etc, make sure you get pictures of each door weather strip and the roof gutter trims.

Obviously the engine, gearbox, drivetrain etc needs checked and ANY non standard items photographed and noted.

The bodywork/paintwork will have flaws that’s a given but you don’t want to have to start painting it especially if you have paid good money.

You need these pictures from someone who is physically standing beside the car and is inspecting it for you, that way if the car is not as described when you get to view it you have a comeback.

The reason I am telling you this is because for some reason people think if the underside is good the rest will be good but unfortunately that is not usually the case unless the car is a real low mileage example that has been stored correctly.

I have looked at a lot of so called fresh imports in most of the UK Japanese import specialists, the condition of the cars compared to the way they have been described has been quite frankly embarrassing and the majority of these cars were good underneath.

The trim suffers very badly in Japan from sun fade especially the seats and outer body trims, pictures can be taken in a way that you can’t actually see this so be very wary of it.

A Japanese HPI check is a must to verify mileage and condition of the car while it has been in Japan, DO YOUR OWN even if you are told it comes with an auction sheet.
