E8 Coolant reservoir question

2 hoses going into top, where does the one closest to wing attach to or is a vacuum pipe??

Any help appreciated!

Ben

one closest to the wing is just a vent for the coolant tank and just seems to run down into the arch a bit and stop

It's just an overflow for the reservoir

It's more of an expansion tank and has a proper purpose.
The pipe going down into the tank that also connects to the top of the radiator should be submerged in coolant fluid so that it is able to "suck" fluid back into the system when the system cools down and the fluid inside contracts, but is free to vent fluid into the reservoir when hot (and consequently air being expelled from the expansion tank vented out to atmosphere).

I've seen some running dry or with fluid lower than the pipe from the radiator, which isn't a great idea.

Hope that helps
