Turbo opinions for VI

Hi

My turbo looks like it needs changing
I have a an Evo VI with a standard VIII engine.
The car has stage 1 mods, 3" Blitz cat back, 3" TSL downpipe.
Walbro pump, K&N induction kit and boost controller.
I was going to buy a new standard VI turbo.
Do people think it's worth paying the extra for a IX turbo,
I am not looking to modify the engine so it will remain with standard internals.

Any help is much appreciated.

Speaking as someone who today has had his IX magnesium turbo disintiergrate on the Corwen road in Wales resulting in a recovery lorry back to CarPlanet I'd avoid anything magnesium if I were you!

The 80 series IX turbo is highly rated and an improvement over the standard VI tubby. Have a search mate. Plenty of threads on the 80 tubby

Wouldn't he better staying with the IX tubby? As posted above he is looking to keep standard internals, TT205 and bbk are able to make fair bit more power than the IX.

looking at it more future proofing they'll perform fine on a standard engine

he'll pay nearly as much for a second hand 9 turbo as a new one of those

Just wondered mate. The list seems to get bigger every week in regards to standard frame turbos to choose from. They all seem to perform really well though which makes the choice even harder!!

If your looking at only 350hp area just buy a good nick std 6 turbo..
If wanting to go over this 400hp go for the 9 Turbo..

No point buying Turbos that your not gonna use to its full potential.

We could have your 6 turbo collected FOC, delivered to TT and converted to S204 spec, after which it would also be delivered back to you again FOC and all for the sum of £585+vat.

Plenty of foood for thought, I aiming to run circa 370hp.
Only on standard internals so don't want to push too far.
The S204 sounds a good priced alternative to the IX.
Dare I ask what the spool time is like on the S204 in comparison
to a stock VI unit..

Send Kevcoke a pm and ask him, he has just fitted one to his 8.Our own experience is that on the road it isn't a bit laggy and pulls hard up top.
