Rotary sounding idle

Hi Guys,
Got an issue with my 4 (6 engine, injectors and ECU) where it runs lumpy as hell on cold below about 2000rpm, for the first 30 seconds of driving or so, then drives perfectly, but idles like a ported rotary. I've ruled out ignition because it drives perfectly from 2000rpm to redline, ruled out air leaks, ruled out low compression on a cylinder and ruled out the MAF....

no smoke or anything untoward at any point

where do I look next

Is the 6 engine totally standard? Are you sure what cams it has?

As far as I know yes it's standard, I took the rocker cover off and couldn't find any markings indicating the cams are aftermarket
