All,

When the time approaches for you to venture out on to the Internet and grace us with a new thread full of noble purpose, wry humour or technical merit, please take a second or two to consider your choice of thread title. Often this seems to be a mere afterthought to the eloquent and witty text in the main post (yeah, right) and as such we, your fellow enthusiasts, often have difficulty discerning what you might be wittering on about.

Some examples:

A. Selling a cam cover
Bad thread title: for sale
Good thread title: Cam cover for sale

B. Asking which tyres to use
Bad thread title: which ones?
Good thread title: Which tyres are best for VII RS?

C. Help with dump valve install
Bad thread title: help!!!!!1
Good thread title: How to install dump valve on an Evo IV?

D. A 'hilarious' video clip found on ebaumsworld (or other such shithole)
Bad thread title: LOL
Good thread title: LOL!!! Video of this fat kid singing at his computer!!!1

E. Post about the state of this bloody country, it's all their fault, I blame the parents etc. etc.
Bad thread title: makes me mad
Good thread title: I read the Daily Mail and as such probably need lobotomising

A moment of thought when titling your opus can save those of use who, for some strange reason, might not be interested in your eBay auction for a set of Star Trek 25th Anniversary Steak Knifes or the 953rd thread about dump valves, from having to look at your bloody post.

While you are at it, try the Preview Post feature (it can be used more than once folks!) to see if your post is at least semi-legible. You could also take a few seconds to add a few capital letters at the start of sentences and a bit of punctuation; you know, that boring old stuff that actually makes your post readable to the rest of us?

And while you are at it, look at the forum you are posting in; is it really the most relevant place on the MLR for your thread? Again, some examples:

A. Selling a cam cover
Bad forum: Lancer Chat
Good forum: Parts For Sale

B. Asking which tyres to use
Bad forum: Technical Questions
Good forum: Tyres/Wheels

C. Help with dump valve install
Bad forum: Non-Lancer Chat
Good forum: Technical Questions

D. A 'hilarious' video clip forund on ebaumsworld (or other such shithole)
Bad forum: Picture & Video Gallery
Good forum: Chit Chat

E. Post about the state of this bloody country, it's all their fault, I blame the parents etc. etc.
Bad forum: Lancer EX 2000 Turbo
Good forum: www.enochpowell.co.uk....sorry, that should be Non-Lancer Chat

Thanks for reading, these things are about the least you can do to help in this frantic and stressful age.

Have a Merry Christmas
The Rest Of Humanity :)

O.K., you got me to bite. My pet hate :

People who send PM's and when they reply, they reply at the bottom of the PM (as though they are quoting you on a thread), when infact they should reply as per e-mails where the most recent reply goes at the top to save you trudging through lines of text that you've already read! In short :

THE BLOODY SOFTWARE DOESNT PUT THE CURSER AT THE TOP JUST FOR YOU TO MOVE IT TO THE BOTTOM!!

Phew! Glad i got that off my chest! :D

But Chunky, that way people would not be able to say 'if you don't like it don't read it' when people title a thread 'read this LOL' and it is the 73rd repost of the Star Wars kid video and you point out their error to them.

Rich, I have had a few like that that I deleted because i thought people had forgotten to actually write anything before realising after a quick scroll one day that some people like to write underneath? It does beg the question why?

I would have thought the Picture & Video Gallery would be for pictures and video of Lancers or at least contain some form of automotive content, thus Chit Chat would be the ideal place where mindless drivel that people find on the web could be posted ?

'tis my favourite punctuation mark ;)
That confirms the suspicion then; that you are partial to entering the odd colon. :moon:

Anyway, stop trying to be a lazy bugger. These people put them in the wrong place to keep you in a job :D :D :D

BAAA Bumhug ;)

Been thinking about posting about this for a while, the quality of thread titles has really declined recently. I don't know if it's cos people genuinely don't think about these things, or if they think having a vague titles will encourage people to read the thread.

Oh, can you send me the link to the Star Trek 25th Anniversary Steak Knives? I must have missed that thread.

It seems a little confusing to expect people to use the quote function both ways though. The few PMs I've replied to, I've either deleted the quote if it was irrelevant, or kept only the relevant bits and replied to them underneath (as I do on forum posts).

It's a matter of personal preference I suppose...

:D Chunky can we open up a Thread under the Title of(SOFT) Porn please?
You're not listening Kay ... a good thread title would be "Ever wondered what a Scotsman keeps under his kilt?" or "Moderator forum names - ever wondered where they came from?" ;) :D

Not sure which forum it would go in though. Any suggestions chunky? ....

Bump, because I've just spent 10 minutes renaming cryptic thread titles!

Please, no more of the following:

Thread title: Help me decide.....
Entire first post: ....what kind of seat covers to buy?

Thread title: How do I.....
Entire first post: ....attach one of those stupid fan-type air fresheners?

Thread title: I wonder if.....
Entire first post: .....I title a thread like this then more people will like my thread/me?

While I'm on, why not have a re-read of the first post in this thread? Thanks :)

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
