Evo X FQ-360 running 397bhp map with 2 mods, is it safe?

Hello.

Iím relatively new to all of this forum posting but I won an Evo X FQ-360, 2008 and it was delivered yesterday. Iíve been given a dyno sheet of it running 397bhp back in 2013 when it was mapped by TRL who I have recently found out, went out of business a while back. After seeing the map I checked the mods out on the car.

It seems to be only running a straight through exhaust and a HKS blow off valve. The rest is completely stock which is very worrying. Iím just wondering what my plan of action should be as I canít go to the previous tuners to get the map set back to stock or a more ideal tune for the mods itís running.

The car seems to idle strange, between 700 and 1500, also had a fuel/boost cut at about 5000rpm in 3rd gear.

Any guidance on how I can resolve this issue would be very useful.

Many Thanks,

Tom

Whats your location? Will help point you in the direction of good traders

Also get some pics up of the car What was the competition that you won it in?

Hi Stu,

I'm based in the Portsmouth area currently and i'll post some pics below of the car if I can.

I won the car from a company called Elite Competitions.

Hopefully them images should work!

Thanks for the response,

Tom

Nice, even nicer as a prize

I cant think of anyone that far south that could look at the car for you, being a 10 does limit specialists that can check or remap

Hopefully someone will come along with a suggestion

If it were an earlier evo, with the cut and the erratic idle, id be getting the car checked for an air leak on the intake side, that is something that can be done by any turbo/performance specialist, so maybe worth a check

Yeah I can't complain for £12

I'm currently being passed from garage to garage trying to find someone so hopefully I can get a resolution.

I have noticed that the stock air intake is missing a clip on the left side of it, which looks like there is a small gap between the seal, would this be a possible issue? If so I could always get an ETS air induction kit as it looks like the previous owner had one fitted.

Here's a picture, I don't know how easy it is to see

Im not sure, as much as I also have a blue 10, my knowledge of evos relates more to the 4g63 earlier evos

I personally think you need a mapper, just to get a base point, the car mapped to what you have (obviously if you plan to fit any parts, speak with the mapper first and get them fitted, before the remap)

If you are happy to drive, Gary at APT in Norwich have a great rep on here

https://www.ap-tuning.co.uk/

Or south wales, Indigo-gt do a lot of work with 10's

https://indigo-gt.com/

There maybe mappers closer to you, but none that I can think of

Yeah a small part of me wishes it was a 9

I think that's what i'll do then. I contacted Indigo-GT earlier and i'm speaking to another garage currently so fingers crossed I can get it mapped soon.

Thanks for the help Stu

After having a 5 for 14 years my next car was always going to be a 9GT, but I ended up with a X SST, which in fairness I didnt really take too at first. But its grown on me, as much as I'd still love a 9, Im not sure i'd give up my 10 for 1 now

Yeah I can see it growing on me, especially as more of a daily.

I also popped down to a Mitsubishi Specialist in Portsmouth earlier as it turns out there is one right down the road!

They said its the HKS BOV causing all the issues with the MAF in case you were wondering. So I've purchased a stock BOV for them to fit, along with a Cosworth panel filter for good measure.

Ahh I missed that in your OP, yes, aftermarket dump valves do not always work well with evos, especially vent to atmosphere ones and especially on the 10. The 10 doesnt seem to like changes to breathing without a remap

I'd still consider a remap, as you dont know the history of the car, it could have been mapped with parts that have since been removed, at least once remapped, you know the setup is right

Also yes, thats the clincher, I still prefer the 5 I had as a toy, but as a daily drive car, which my evo is, the 10 is a far far better car

Itís great that youíve won such a great car but surely the Evo should be delivered without faults. Is it worth communicating with the the company you won the Evo through to see if they can deal with this issue.
