Toyo T1-R were also allowed in TA so I wouldn't worry about the Zeros being the only tyres allowed. They gotta have a proper semi slick available otherwise none of the big cars will enter.

Just noticed what Kenny wrote as was going to say similar. Toyo tyres were the sponsor last year, not R888, in other words you could use any toyo tyre you wanted, so the same will be with the pirelli's, you can use any pirelli tyre you want
Would be stupid if thats not the case.

i wonder what the cost difference will be from the 888 to pirelli eqivilent?? i'd always thought of pirelli as expensive???

on the plus side, so many people i've spoken to have said that as far as semi slicks go there is much better out there than the 888, so maybe we will now see reduced lap times?

That's not the case, you could only run toyo r888's or T1R type tire as the T1R was rubbish in the dry everyone used the r888. In the end they even they us cut the r888 so we could make better wet tyres.

From what I understand they are only available in sizes that most in TA would not use

Just got back from the autosport show, I had a good chat to the time attack guys today about the tyre situation and this is what I've been told.

Pirelli have 3 different types of tyre to choose from and the final dicision has not been made yet, they have back to back tested them against the toyo r888 and they have set faster lap times on the pirelli p-zero's by 1.5seconds. Pirelli know they have to make more sizes in the tyre range but this was going to be sorted in a meeting with time attack & pirelli people this afternoon at autosport.
Glen horncastle has told me pirelli tyres will be available in sizes 17,18,19,&20" so that should be the problem put to bed.
So I'm in for 2011.

For all the news to feed out should take around 3 weeks so sit back and chill.
Cheers lee.

Good news then Lee, I wouldn't fancy driving on a full blown road tyre. 888's were bad enough!

at the other end of the competiton ladder the lads in the F1000 rally championship have gone over to PIRELLI after FALKENS ,the pirellis are TWICE the price of the falken

i wouldnt worry to much PIRELLI will have a tyre for the big power lads ,they wont have gone into a deal like this and have the the money buttons walk away

just because it say P ZERO ont he side it doesnt mean its a road tyre ,all rally moulded slick all have P ZERO on

it is strange that in uk nobody uses pirelli corsas in club racing etc.
Tottaly different league than 888s with treadwear 60 and much faster tyre, even the old pirelli corsa ''c''
Be carefull this year cause pirelli can sell wrc tyres(pirelli p zero) as the size fits(235-40-18) there are in 2 compounds (dry-wet) but they are very heavy, due to be bullet proof at special stages as they are the same tyres used by mr Loeb & co(these tyres are DOT also). You have to prefere the ''trofeo'' one.
tyre sizes was always a problem for pirelli semis, but if they fix it as leeb said , is ok.
a disadvantage with corsas is that they need more time to be in heat than 888s

Lee -when you say "p-zeros" which tyre pattern does that actually imply. I thought P-zero denoted a range and then you have specific P-zero types like Rosso or Corsa?
