Saving a rotten evo 6

So first post and everything so may not be perfect but here goes!

Purchased my first evo 6 back in October 2017. Body work was almost mint condition few light stone chips on bumper and bonnet as to be expected.

Now I wont go into details of when I purchased it but i knew a few things weren't perfect such as AYC, Pads & discs and 2 tyres. I accounted for this and negotiated to a very cheap price almost too good to be true... Had a quick look under and couldn't see anything major except for a few patches on the spare wheel well.

Few days pass and i decide its time to sort the AYC out. I drive on down to my local Jap specialist and he admires how clean the car looks from the outside. I leave the car and keys with him and off I go. An hour or so passes and I receive a phone call from him (Now hes quick but not that quick so i assumed i had to authorise some extra work maybe pipes something like that anyway). To my horror he tells me the car is absolutely rotten underneath and there is no way he would want to work on the car. I quickly make my way back to see what could possibly be wrong and well i see holes that have been hidden more bad patches ect ect.

I'm then faced with a choice. Break or fix? I was offered a very good price by an alternate garage who would take it in strip sell the parts basically another evo off the road forever. I also put the car on gumtree at not much more than what i paid for the car.

Within minutes of posting the add i receive multiple phone call and text with people saying they will pay and collect the same day with no problem? A few obviously gave it the "Oh it probably needs more work so ill give you X amount). Keep in mind in my advert i had attached a few photos and said it would be serious work to get it back to road worthy.

A few days pass and i'm still getting calls and texts asking if its still available. I finally come to the conclusion that I simply cannot let it go and I want to save it...

So the work began...

Some of the photos are slightly mixed up from order we did stuff but i'm sure you will all work it out!

Then the chopping had to start.

I think this highlights how bad everything was.

Now unfortunately about 2 or 3 weeks in we decided that the boot simply wasn't worth saving so it had to go!

Then had to make a custom diff holder as the spare wheel well normally holds this up!

Underseal time

Underside is now 100% rust free and ready for the next few bits!

Will post update soon of the next part of the build!

p.s none of this would of been possible if it wasnt for the help of SCP.

Very good effort and commitment! It looks as though he’s fabricated most of the replacement parts?

I replied to a thread in the sale section, where the seller stated that the underside corrosion is all hype on these cars. It is paramount as the example here looks mint up top!

Yeah only sheet metal was bought then fabricated for what I needed!

Gives me hope for mine :). My build was put on hold after spotting rot in the car once aftermarket sills and fuel tank were removed. Mine goes into some one local to me sometime next month :)

How long did the work take? As it can give me an idea on how much longer my build is on hold as it’s already took me about 3 months to find someone who was willing to do it.

Took about 3 weeks to be fully complete.
