A fast reliable sprint / track car

As the tittle says really, I can't think of anything besides a Evo that is reliable and could be very competitive in a hill climb or sprint

Is there anything out there ??

Don't be blinkered, that's the trouble on here, Steve's had a Evo that's let say wasn't exactly reliable, certain tuner, remember ??

Nah, nothing. It's probably been 10+ years since the last evo you ever drove was made and in those 10 years there haven't been any advances in automotive technology at all. That's why evos are still everywhere winning everything.

This surely depends on what class you plan on entering? If I was doing it on a budget I'd go for a 172/182, a sport Ka(sounds daft but they handle like go karts), civic type-r, mx5, maybe even an old 3 series. Don't need to spend mega money to have a lot of fun.

Saying that 1, I want a roof ( should of said ) but the old slug of the Evo again has done the job against some real nice Caterhams even a R600 !! I have driven 1 and they feel crazy fast and only about 2" off the ground

I would test drive 1 if I ever seen 1 for sale Have been looking at these for ages Pete stupid money to get now though, but you wouldn't lose on 1, only thing is would they be competitive standard ?? don't they have hand built forged motors as standard too ??

All of the above are good options No M3 etc though as I don't believe they are up to the level I would be looking at, when I say competitive I like winning all that taking part stuff don't do it for me

I would like to do the Manx 3 day Hill Climb next year and be in with a chance, and there is the likes of 500+ Evo's entering plus id do the odd sprint etc

Haha definitely a manx man! Extremely competitive! My brother and his family live in Glen Maye, love a trip to the island. Might head down for the senior tt this year.

You need to try a mapped R26R

I think you will be surprised, plus you can drive it home and you won't lose a penny in value.

I was driven around the handling circuit by a professional driver on Saturday in an Alfa Romeo 4C. Absolutely mental. Would be way faster than an Evo on a sprint if driven properly, but I think that might be a big ask for an amateur? (and not exactly cheap, either)

I'm still thinking that an Evo is the best all-round package for sprints and hillclimbs, and definitely more fun than anything, *anything*, front wheel driven... but hey, we're biased on here, right?

Or a Radical. but again, not cheap.

Cheerz

[Edit...

I've decided to sell my Evo only yesterday, in order to scratch an overwhelming itch I've developed for something else. When it sells, I'll be looking for an '04 vintage Civic Type-R to keep me mobile and do a track day or two in until I get a new car delivered.

I know what I said about front wheel drive... but needs must when on a budget of funds as well as practicality.]

Taking the time around the Top Gear track I ran some metrics on a handful of cars (only did a few of the very best as I'm assuming you're not considering £500k cars), the metric takes into account the power, weight and time (there is also a result that does not factor in the weight of the car). As you can see there are quite a few cars that could be considered "better" than an evo when you take all factors into account (the assumption being that the cars at the top have a better base with which to improve on).
