What is your clearance like?
When is your clutch engaging in relation to the pedal travel?
Are you using the original hydraulic clutch set up? (slave cylinder or a hydraulic release bearing)

as regards clearance we've tried varying it, and even at high clearance it still does it. The clutch engages when the pedal is still to the floor. not sure about the hydraulic clutch set up :-(

Jul,

Are you sure it is an HKS kit????

If the clutch is engaging when the pedal is still at the bottom you must have problem with your slave/ master clylinders, this is based on the fact that you said you have already tried to adjust the clearance but then again you wouldn't have and pedal feel.
Other than that it would be a knackered press plate.
