Clutch Failure and your thoughts

So I had this clutch fitted less than a year ago, and car has covered less than 5000 miles in that time, with no track time or launches. Car is a bog standard Evo 8 260, so not running big power at all. Clutch was/is rated to well over the power my car is outputting.

I was driving and went to change from 3rd to 4th and could get no gears. No noises or bangs, just could not engage any gear and there was a slight judder/ vibration on the pedal when depressed

I had to have the clutch changed and this is what was found

What are your thoughts on what could cause this. I know the car has not been abused and the clutch was installed by a reputable company who know Evo's.

Before I go sending it back to the manufacture I would like to hear from the wealth of knowledge on the MLR what the possible causes could be or if anyone has had something similar and what the cause was.

Thanks in advance

where was the clutch bought (ie was it ebay or trader if you dont want to name), what clutch is it. Has the car been parked up for any length of time, and did it get a new flywheel when it was fitted

New fly wheel fitted at the Same time as clutch and by same manufacture! Nope car not been sat, is currently used as my daily so used most days of the week.

Supplied and fitted by a known evo trader.

I won’t name names at the moment until all involved have had opportunity to have their say on their thoughts. I Just wanted people thoughts before I have to send clutch back at which point I doubt I will ever see it again

Pretty pointless post if you donít say who the garage is or who clutch is made by. If you did share said information people could tell you if either are a load of ****. By the looks of it Iíd say that clutch was probably ****.

So I have had a response, and basically not interested.

So it’s an RTS clutch, which I can confirm are ****.

Might send it back to find out what they say, but I know it’s almost a pointless exercise!!

Will keep updated with any more info I receive.

Exedy were just as unhelpful when my twin plate (bought new off a trader on here) failed due to metal failure (ie nothing to do with friction surfaces). I was warned Exedy aftermarket support with failures was useless before I tried though

Who was not interested? RTS? Please do, would be interested to hear their views etc as i have an RTS fitted to my 360. No issues so far, touch wood, and like the feel of it. Think there's a few people on here running them too.

On the face of it I'd have thought a manufacturing defect, or just poor quality clutch.

Apparently it’s good for 400/400.

No pics of the flywheel. I am popping to the garage on Friday to get them all. But mechanic said no damage to it.

When it happened I pulled straight over and had the car recovered. When I get more pics will post them

Yeah rts, have got to send it to them to be inspected which is fair enough. But tempted to get it done independently first cost dependant as the noise I’m getting from rts is saying caused by over revving, or changing down gears to sharply, I.e 5th to 2nd, but I was up shifting and not even under heavy load

Like I say mine is a bog standard 260!! So I would have thought even if I had abused, which I haven’t, the clutch could cope.

As you can see from pics no serious hear gone into the clutch etc.

I also ordered another clutch from them as a replacement, 7 working days later still not arrived so cancelled and installed an exedy as i needed the car on the road. Fingers crossed this last longer if their after sales are anything to go by.
