Rainwater in gearbox

Hi guys.

I'm after some advice. Whilst replacing my clutch, where the gearbox was stored has been leaking and rainwater found its way inside the gearbox. It's still off the car but want to make sure I get all of it out.

Can this be done without splitting it?

Thanks,

John

Thanks all. Split the box, glad I did as water would never have got out otherwise.

Gave a good chance to inspect all bearings, gears and synchros. Heated all bearings with a blowlamp gently until satisfied all water was removed. Coated everything in gear oil and put back. Not what I imagined I'd be doing but had to be done.
