I guess even though a lot of the up-tempo versions might have things going for them, and everyone who covers this does it up-tempo, the whole low-energy thing was basically Sabbath's "sound". Songs like Iron Man, and even the eponymous Black Sabbath were quintessential to who they were in the early days, and in an age of faster bands it was definitely interesting.

Damn, missed that year with Zack at Donington, looks wild

There was a lot of good new metal in late 80s & 90s so personally I'd moved onto bands like Pantera. RATM, Machine Head etc. This is one of my favourites from back then:
