Are these tyres usable in winter?

I have them on both of mine but don't use them in winter. I would think that the Michelin pilot or similar would be a better bet

Yes they are but flakey on greasy type surfaces. Again in the wet you don’t want to go chasing land speed records. Once you are aware of this and you drive accordingly they are fine.

Have currently AD08Rs fitted and to give you a rough idea what to expect... a while back ago I fitted a few goodies against oil surges (baffled sump, kiggley pressure reg, etc.) did some testing in an isolated part of town on a small round about (idea was to try and get the oil slushing or lying on one side of the pan).

Without going too deep into the maths.. around 10C I could go around the roundabout with 40-45 kmhr without the backend or the frontend loosing grip. In the dry albeit 20C, I could hold easily 65-70 kmhr.

So you could say in colder (and wet conditions) you can see a approx. 30% reduction in grip.

I have run these tyres since my built engine and they are great but do not like the wet which is fare as a fast road tyre. I drive only in the dry but two years in a row its been damp and some rain which makes grip with over 450bhp fun

Great tyre for the Evo but I would not use AD08R in winter.

They need heat to work, the roads are to cold.

Much better to switch to a good set of winters

Yes they are.

I use mine all year around as they are all I use, they aren’t very good in the cold or wet just don’t be a idiot and you will be fine.

I have 4 set of rims and 3 of them have ad08r tyres on.

Do not use them in winter. it will be better to choose such brands as Michelin. They are the best fit for winter and other weather conditions.

Not if you want to drive your Evo like an Evo.

If you don't avail yourself of your performance car's performance, then you could use them year-round, but if you just want one set of tyres (or wheels and tyres) without the storage or having to change for the seasons, then a set of Pilot Sport 4 will give you 80%+ of the performance of the AD08 in the dry and far superior performance in the wet and cold weather that the UK gets for 50% of the year.

Presumably you'll be using your car in the winter, since you're asking the question...

The other option is to swap tyres for the seasons. A second set of wheels is also a bonus here... and despite an initial outlay, it won't actually cost you any more in the long term to do this, since you can only use one set of tyres at a time and you'll get the same amount of mileage out of both sets of tyres as if you were buying them and using them consecutively. A second set of wheels will also hold most of their value and can be sold on later - and to my mind works out cheaper long term than paying for tyres to be swapped onto the same set of wheels twice per year.

Depending on how severe you expect winter to be (consistent snow?), you could choose between cheap winter tyres for harsh conditions and run them for 3 months per year or a set of PS4 for not so harsh winters (just cold and wet).

I'm on my 4th of AD08R used as all-round road tyre all seasons, but I speak of an Australian climate where below 0c doesn't really ever occur. They are a truly excellent performance tyre imo, which I often end up leaving on the car on for low key track days/sprints instead of putting on the A050s as they offer 95% of the grip but don't wear as fast. As has been mentioned, they like some temp, and they do struggle to manage standing water. Prolly a conventional performance road tyre will give you more safety margin in cold wet Britain.

I'm no expert when it comes to that tire brand, but when it comes to choosing winter tires, I'll gladly point you towards these wheel and tire packages. I found my set of Michelin X-Ice and Continental VikingContact 7 tires from that same website for a good price.

Problem with AD08Rs is that there aren't any AD08Rs anymore, just RS.

So what would should change the AD08R for? Michelin Cup 2s? PS4? PSS?
