Evo 7 compatible alarm systems

Just looking through the technical information manual for the VII and noticed there's a section on a "smart wiring system". Given the age of the car, it was around the start of CANBUS systems being introduced.

Does the alarm need to be CANBUS compatible (looks like Clifford do one), or can I fit a "normal" alarm such as a Toad/Cobra etc?

SWS is the same as LINBUS
