No, really, I did actually buy an Evo VI

Yes I did. It's been emotional...

She arrived today.

Fresh Japanese import Evo VI GSR, grade 3.5, not yet registered, so can't even drive it until the paperwork comes back from DVLA in maybe a week's time.

Here's a taster photo

Needs a lot of TLC - watch out for the clean-up thread coming soon.

You're as impatient as me, LOL.

A few "essentials" spring to mind already, but the list is very long.

Already had oil and filters changed and a complete cambelt service. Calipers were re-painted already - to an "average" standard but *way* better than they were.

Importantly, the underside was in excellent condition - not 100% perfect, but really very good. Clear waxoyl already on.

Car is absolutely standard with original exhaust and catalyst, etc...

High priority attention:

New door seals - the top outer seals are perished
Lube the door hinges and straps - they squeak and creak
Some fresh bolts to replace rusty wheel-arch ones and a few elsewhere.
Refurb the wiper arms satin black
A second key
New wiper blades
Fresh spark plugs
An intense wash... lots of grime in all the crevices needs cleaning out
Replace gear knob (has a silly carbon effect cylinder)
Single DIN head unit (replace the silly carrozzerria double DIN)
AYC service booked 8 Nov - should be registered by then?
Replace wheels - Not a fan of the gold - even though they are *genuine* RAYS gram lights
Speedo converter (and probably convert the ~141,000km odo to ~88,000 miles correctly)
Brembo decals already on order
clear side repeaters
Check behind arch liners and apply protection anywhere else that's been missed

Next priorities:

Russ Fellows Exhaust
Decat
Fuel pump
Some kind of induction (possibly battery/induction reposition)
braided brake lines and brake fluid
discs and pads??? - maybe, not sure if they are needed yet...
S-Tech springs

Followed by:

3-port solenoid & remap

Other things planned in no particular priority:

Strut tower braces front and rear
Lash adjusters maybe?

The paintwork is in pretty poor condition all over - I'll get a machine polish done quite quickly, but I'm not sure that will sort it out. It's scruffy, but I took it on knowing this and is the reason it was a grade 3.5 and to be fair I paid a reasonable price for the condition it's in.

Probably stuff that's slipped my mind.

Lots of work to be getting on with anyway, so watch out for the new thread starting this weekend.

Exciting stuff

I know, right.

They've actually grown on me.

A little.
Proper RAYS gram lights with original stickers inside the barrels....

... but you're right - they need to change.

(I'll keep the goldies for the track - or maybe sell if there's any interest???)

Just couldn't stay away could you!

Whats the overall plan for using the car considering what else you have access too?

The real reason we invested in a 3rd car is because we're around 10 miles out of town on country roads. I quickly came to the conclusion that my new M3 would be a total liability in winter, so a 4wd car was kinda needed. Additionally, I could use the 3rd car for trackdays in summer...

I looked at a few cars including original 1.8T Audi S3 and the Imprezza range, but it was my Mrs, really, who put me on the path to an Evo saying I wouldn't be happy with anything else. She was probably right, so I stretched the budget and this is the outcome.

So the overall plan is, unlike most 3-car Evo owners, is to run it during winter as well as a track day or 2 in summer.

As for mods, nothing fancy. Standard internals and turbo and try to get the best out of that with exhaust, decat, induction, fuel pump, remap. Really wanted to change the ECU to a Link, but that's outside the budget for now.

Slàinte Mhath
