Wheels/offset over brakes question

Hi Guys,
Iíve been reading and seems abit hit and miss with ET on the rota wheels side of things.
I have an 8MR and have just purchased Ksport 356 brake kit which states 18Ē wheels needed. Soooo Iím looking at 18Ē wheels. Can anyone tell me what Iím looking at to fit over the brakes please

What do you mean by "hit and miss"? Which Rota design are you considering and are you looking to increase the width over what you have now?

I've used 18" Rotas on several of my Evos and never has a caliper clearance issue, but then again I've only ever used Brembos, APs and Alcons. Working out whether and if the KSport calipers will stick out further than a set of OE Brembos might be useful first thing to do - which in turn will largely be determined by whether the KSport disc offset is different to OE.

I just meant hit and miss as to finding exact wheels thatís all mate. Iíve not got any yet so didnít want to stumble upon a problem when I know I can ask the professionals first lol. I just like the look of the Rota Grid type wheels.
Saying that, I have an 8 MR and reading through the treads seems that people saying that 356 will fit under the MR wheels? If so then thatís my preferred option as Iíd rather keep 17Ē.
Can you shed light on that?

Failing that I will contact Ksport and ask for Caliper dimensions or wait until they are fitted and go from there.

Thanks for feedback

Looking at it from first principles, a 17" rim = 432mm. Lets say the rim thickness is 10mm and the thickness of overhang of the caliper is 15mm beyond the disc. So the available space that's left is 432 - ((2x 10) + (2x 20)) = 372mm. So on that basis the 356mm kit should fit relatively comfortably, even if balancing weights are fitted on the inside of the rim.

I have a set of 19" Rotas on my current X with 362mm APs. Caliper to rim clearance is 30mm and disc to rim clearance is 50mm. So the arithmetic there indicates an internal rim diameter of 462mm which just happens to be spot on 20mm less than the quoted rim size of 19" ie 482mm).

But every rim design is different, so I don't think you can trust the above in anything like every instance.

Then, of course there is caliper to spoke clearance. With the Rotas there is ample clearance, but I also have a set of similar looking 18" Bolas, and the clearance is marginal, even to the extent that I if I decide to fit these wheels long term I would most likely run either a 3mm or 5mm spacer. PS I can't recall the relative offsets of these two sets of wheels, but in any case it would have little or no relevance to fitment on an 8.
