2017 Sprints?

After a cracking final round at Cadwell Park with half the 70 car field being EVOs, the dust has now settled on 2016 and I've just about caught my breath!

2016 was as enjoyable as always and had some real highlights – Cadwell being one of them, but it’s also been a very challenging year and to be completely straight with you all, the Series lost a lot of money which we simply can’t afford to do again.

Lee is already looking at the Classes including making ‘Class A’ a real entry level class for cars with fewer mods, the possibilities of going to 3 classes, and maybe even aligning them with the 22BSS so we have some multi-marque competition too. We’re also considering a number of standalone sprints rather than a Series, where drivers can just enjoy a day’s competition rather than feel any pressure of committing to a number of rounds.

I appreciate everyone has their favourite venues too – tight & twisty Teesside, or a major venue like Cadwell Park - and this is something else we need to consider as well as other alternatives if possible.

So as we look towards 2017 please can I ask for everyone who fully intends to take part next year to complete the poll, as this will really help us understand if enough of you want to compete and how.

Thanks

After my incident at the last round, I'm really not sure what I'm going to be doing next year, depends if my engine is goosed or not. But 12 hours to Pembrey definitely isn't going to happen again.

One thing I will say is I've no preference of track type, I enjoy them all from Teesside to Cadwell and makes for a more rounded series all together.

How have we had 23 people vote and only 17 say they are taking part? Does this mean we have people voting for venues even though they aren't getting involved?

I want to make a one time appearance at combe but dont thinks its fair you have to pay the registration fee to just do one event.

Agree on paying the admision fee but you should only pay the registration fee imo if entering for the year

could you not count all events but you have to nominate 4 as scoring rounds say ,folk will do jus tth eodd one but wotn feel thay have to attened them all to have a shot at the over all title
venues wise ,you just have to do your best to balance the books with what your offered ,while some venues may be mega fast but they may also be very expensive
could you also not look at a hill climb or many of the other sprint tracks uk wide ,some where like curbough ,aintree or 3 sisters .

I definitely fancy doing a few in the guest class next year, dependant on dates and the car being finished.

Hopefully there will be a lot more interest as it'd be a damn shame to let such a good series come to an end.

Would love some stand alone events like the days before the sprint series when it was far less competitive and more a bit of fun day out with a lot of quite standardish 300 bhp cars.

I'll certainly take part in any of those next year.

The sprint series has been a great platform for so many people that perhaps didnt realise they were in to "competitive motorsport", as a mediocre driver its defo one of the best things I have ever been involved in and I find it sad for the club that despite all the best efforts to improve its profile that the Evo side hasnt grown in numbers.
Most people who try it, are hooked but getting people to try it has always been the sticking point. Since I have been involved its very much been the same grop of guys, which is great, but the series needs new blood to survive, looking at Darins post.
A way to bring new competitors in is the key to ensuring the future IMO... but with the value of our Cars going the way it is, coupled with the cost of competing & the potential loss of ego at stake, perhaps the writing is on the wall for the Evo section

I stock piled a load of parts for my car then for various reasons ran out of time to get it built in 2016..
Been down to Dynotech this week to get the ball rolling, with the year off i really missed it but also did alot of track days in other cars,, made me realise building my evo to be competitive in the sprints would have taken me down a quirky modding route to comply with a lower category class.

With a year out i had time to realise i'd rather build my car to the best spec that suits my taste and budget and then see what class that puts me in. (sounds obvious but it's easy to get caught up on building a competetive car rather then just enjoying the car you have already)

Even if my mods mean i'll be in class D with 400bhp, il be happy taking part and enjoying the events and comradery,,
I hope the mlrss does take place in 2017 as ive missed taking part this year and think alot of people on here would really enjoy taking part- it's just getting more people to give it a go that is the challenge i guess?

Edited to say- i agree with Ross, the same core people are always in attendance which is great but new blood is needed to make the platform a success.
Having tried a few entry level motorsport events, the mlrss is defo great value for money and the best fun out of any i have tried,
cheers Jamie

How about a link to the classes specifications and one showing costs at different events to help tempt those currently on the fence.

https://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=517980

Costs are cheaper than a trackday (150) for entrance and the car has to have a fire extinguisher safely fitted within reach of the driver (45).

This comment just goes to show that the mlrss isnt getting the publicity it should.

I know there is a whole section of the mlrss dedicated too it,, however most evo owners i bump into are on the MLR, yet none of them have ever heard of the Sprints- not sure how to better publicise them but it clearly goes under most peoples radar,

cheers Jamie

That is part of the problem If you are not on the forum other than word of mouth it does not exist

This is why we started to use Face Book because then people who are not in the series can see it

This way we might get new blood and Ross is spot on with his comments

I did my first sprint with you guys at Cadwell and really enjoyed it, it was very well run with some good laughs along the way.
Depending on calendar I'd love to do some more rounds next year but all depends on venues etc

could there not be a look at the classes ,instead of car based ,do it driver based

beginner , novice ,expert ,sprinting demi god

you win the class you move up a class ,yeah a quick guy in a quick car will win the class and move up sharp ish

for me it would take the "OH you need this that and the other to win" crowd out of it ,this way you wouldnt get them just the guys with BIG spuds and a drop of talent

i think we need to look at getting lads to have a go ,as we all know once your in your hooked ,give them a class where they are likly to win something everynow and again rather than jumping on the spend all you can gravy train

out of interest how many took up the 1/2 day thing with only paying for the afternoon after youve enjoyed the morning FOC
