I'm not in a position to buy one sadly but I really hope these sell like hot cakes, it'd be great to see more cars like this from other manufacturers.

At least it's INTERESTING for a change! 30K is a lot of money for a Yaris (or any car to be honest). Be one to get second hand in 5 years though unlikely to be a CULT car until it gets a lot older, people buy stuff on finance and use it as a tool like a phone nowadays...
...May test drive one though.

Don't understand why they need to sell 25,000 to qualify for WRC - why aren't all the other WRC manufacturers having to do the same then?

It's because they changed the WRC car too much for it to count as a variant of a normal Yaris, so they have to do a special production car to count as the base for the WRC car.

If you have a look at MONKEYLONDON,s youtube channel, he and his girlfriend got invited to the launch.
He got to go out with Kris Meeke and Fernando Alonso, in the cars .
Its a great video, with Fernando and many other pro drivers racing them around the track and drifting them at some insane angles.
Looks a really fun car and something I would definitely be interested in.

I like this, nice to see . Although a few questions - why not more power? Also itís a shame with new cars and all their safety etc as it bumps the weight up. Sure itís light (same as Evo 5) bit over 100 Hp less? Mind you this one doesnít (hopefully) rot when you look at it

Will be tempted by one of these in future if they prove to be any good, ive always fancied a Audi S1 as small, turbo & 4wd (sort of) cars like that are few and far between, however the bland looks of the S1, price and fact its an Audi put me off though!...Yaris should be a better option but will await to see what its like before getting to excited

Toyota are saying 25k in a year. No expert but that that seems to be because the 2.5k minimum is for production of the donor cars within a second 25k minimum production of the base model (say, >2.5k Evos produced of >25k Lancers). As they've grafted two platforms together to make this thing it's not close enough to the next model of the ordinary Yaris for the latter to count as the base model. I think that is why they are saying they need to meet the higher 25k production number (and in one year).

Basically, it isn't really enough of a Yaris (but they want the halo).

It's not that complicated as once an R5 car has been homologated that is it for some years ahead

If Toyota want to homologate it another class that's another story . .

Well I never will buy a 3 cyl. car, certainly not for that price. With 260 HP it is hardly tuneable. And for a wrc it misses a nice spoiler also it is still a heavy car for it size (1280 kg dry).
If they want to sell more the price should be under 35.000 euro.

Even as a lawyer I find the FIA appendices impenetrable, but for whatever reason, Toyota is definitely saying it is 25k.

Here's their press release, see first paragraph and footnote 1.

http://en.acnnewswire.com/press-rele...ieres-gr-yaris

(1) The necessary type of certification for participating in an FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) race. To acquire WRC homologation, the base model of a vehicle to be entered in a race must have a continuous 12-month production volume of 25,000 units or greater.

I assume they know the rules given the level of risk this is for them.
