Supra 2JZ vs new B58 engine tear down vids

This guys videos are pretty class so thought I would share for those who like this short of thing.

It`s interesting to see how engine tech has changed over the years and it's easy to see why the 2jz engines were and still are so good.

Karl have you watched any of the Platinum stuff on the Motive Video channel on YouTube comparing RB blocks to 2JZ, was pretty interesting.

The coilpack comparison video was pretty good too

The coilpack one has probably saved me from buying any of the M&W like kits, thats for sure. Just not required if you go GTR coils.

That first vid you posted Tim on the 2J vs RB...

I wasn't too impressed when he referred to a digital caliper as a micrometer and I'm not sure why he's testing the hardness of a block as an indication for strength either . The geometry analysis and thickness is interesting though.

Then I watched this...

That was interesting too - play in the gudgeon hey... .

I'm no engineer, so I could be wrong, especially with some of my terminology, but the way I see it is a harder block will be less malleable and therefore resistant to change from the loads and stresses from combustion and the rotating and reciprocating masses within.

Also I'm sure I have seen on here some cases of early Wiseco pistons failing in a similar way to the video above, I cannot remember if the oval'd or just cracked around that area though. I think SiB had a set fail which he documented trying to get his car ready for a Ring trip?
