Most X's have had the manifold changed as they are prone for cracking, I had mine done around the 45000 miles mark.

Are you sure its not intake, a faulty filter maybe ? There is lots of air going through on boost and that's another thing probably not covered by leak test.

It's possible it's on intake but the blast sounds so forceful I'd be surprised. Auto Torque have booked in the car for a week pledging to find the fault and won't charge me for the investigation. Fingers crossed we can get to the bottom of it.

And their comment on the fact they’ve charged for a full turbo setup that didn’t resolve it? Assume they’re going to rip that out and replace with the non faulty item?

Hi, if its not on the boosted side and especially when it's only happening on full boost you're going to have negative pressure on the induction as the turbo's going to be sucking a lot of air, it could be sucking air in and whistling around the Airbox or Maff ? you could check all the clips on the hoses or even take the filter out briefly to reduce the restriction/vacuum so you can identify it on the induction then trace it?

Won't charge you for the investigation, doesn't say they won't charge you to fix

Intake sounds like a likely source of the noise tbh

I used AT a couple of times previously, before making the switch to APT. APT are much much further away, but I trust them 100%.

Although I have no complaints whatsoever about the standard of their work, I felt more than once that I was being overcharged, and that I was not being treated as a valued customer to any extent at all, merely a financial opportunity.
I won’t use them anymore. They did my cambelt and broke one of their tools on an engine mount spindle thing. Blamed the car and lucky they had another in stock. So charged me for that and an extra 30mins labour. Had the belt off the time so not as if I could say no. £180 on top of a cambelt because of their numpty.

What turbo is on it. It’s not hard to do a pressure check and did they open the throttle while doing the test. As I have seen throttle seals whistle when throttle moving.

AUTO TORQUE HAVE NOW RESOLVED THIS.

They took a good look at it, we booked it in for a week just in case. What ended up resolving it was replacing 3 vacuum hoses one of which must have been leaking although there were no obvious splits to the eye.

The noise has gone, they didn't charge me for the work nor for the use of their courtesy car.

To be fair to them they were very keen to resolve this, they put quite a bit of work in and other mechanics couldn't find the issue.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Excellent. Bet that’s a relief. Just hope Autotorque did the right thing and refunded you for the new turbo that was fitted unnecessarily.

As above. If you didn’t get a refund on the turbo kit, they’re still had you over on this one!

First things to check are vacuum hoses ffs.
