You can do it with a generic temp sensor, but you'll need a pull up resistor.

(even though there are way too many factors involved for a truly accurate comparison)

Easiest/cheapest way would be a k-type thermocouple sensor wired into a voltage amplifier. This would then be fed direct to the ecu and logged via evoscan or similar.
