18,000 mile 5RS

Just picked up a lovely clean 18,000 mile 5 RS !! I've been on the look out for a decent base car to sensibly mod for a bit of fast Road&Track

I seen this a couple of months ago and was put off by being told it was a private buy in Japan so had no auction sheet to later get hold of the auction sheet myself and it being a grade R !! But then after posting the auction report on here and being told most cars will of had some paint and bits replaced as we are talking about a 18 year old car and also what had been replaced, wings bonnet and bumper I found myself looking over the advert again and I was in Manchester for the weekend so I took my mate who's a mechanic who really knows his stuff plus he's a big car nut especially Evo's and I wanted the car checked 100% being worried about the R !!

Before hand the owner Guy couldn't of been more helpful I'm must of had 50 pictures, videos and also was also sent the paper work for the car including service history.

On arrival the car was mint just as I would expect from a 1 owner 18,000 mile car, up on the ramp my mate spent about an hour going through the car showing me the places they usually rot but this was solid, only issue but I was told it's no issue at all was some surface rust on the underneath !! He also pointed out the damage that had been caused when in the bump and you could see where the intercooler had bent the bracket but gone no further so that was a relief !! The test drive didn't go to well at 1st. The car has fancy diffs fitted but when we took it out it was dragging us all over the road, further inspection and my mate said it needs aligned it's miles out, the garage owner wasn't aware of this as when he drove it he thought that's how they drive with diffs fitted !! But after we aligned the car it was like a totally new car, it drove smooth and tight. So the deal was done.

But now I'm swaying towards just sticking it in the garage and when funds allow buying something more suited for fast Road&Track as this really is just to good to mess with and how often does a super clean 18,000 mile 5RS pop up !!

There was a couple of nice cars including a TME RS tucked away !!

Here's a couple of pictures

Nice car ... looked at the pics a few times , this car is so screaming out for nitrons a rod job a set of cams and a hks 7460 .

VI_Shooter 22-04-2017 20:26

That is too good to track imo

It's more the condition and I know they are for modifiying, taking bigger power etc but you could get a much cheaper GSR Evo for that and track it.

Leave it alone before you crash it

There's plenty more suited for your needs

I agree mate I couldn't ruin what already is a rare car with super low miles, the fact to mod it most things needs replaced like you say just use a cheaper nice clean base car, I would of stuck to my plan if the mileage wasn't so low as I do like a nice clean car even for track :D

Now that's nice, Im sitting on the fence, I understand the value of keeping it near standard, but it also crys out to me to be tinkered with.

Maybe keep all standard bits so you can return it back to standard in the future?

Yes you can fit later pistons E6-E9.

Some places will - using pistons from a later car.

Nice looking 5. That's an investment. Don't track it.

Very nice that. So is it a grade R? Certainly looks great in the pics. As you said it's an 18year old car, of course it's had some bits done. I would keep it relatively standard myself. Nothing stopping you getting brakes and suspension done though, they are just bolt on. Rod job would future proof it, would it effect value and rarity though?

Great looking car especially for an r grade .
I had a similar situation when I bought mine , it came over from Japan with quite a lot of uprated gear on it .
I can't resist the odd track day in it .
