ok, I have nailed it down to two cars: One of them i'm afraid to say is an 03 sti impreza the other is the silver evo 6 we have been talking about.

sti: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/82658.htm
evo 6: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/87627.htm

I know what looks better, the evo of course :)
But the scoob is cheaper to run..
But I want performance too, which is the quickest/best handling out of the 2?

Thanks in advance..

The 6 will be a better handling car, Scoobys tend to understeer more than Evos when pushed to the limit. Running costs will be similiar, apart from the service intervals on the 6 being more frequent. The engines on Evos tend to be more reliable, especially if you are going to start modifying the car in the future. One other factor in favour of the Evo is it is a little more exclusive, how many Evos do you see on the road compared to Scoobys?

That's exactly what draws me to evo's :)
They are indeed way more exclusive than scooby's your'e right, I see 3 or 4 scooby's to every evo plus evo's look better for sure..
Would the sti be quicker in a straight line though? I've heard those things are fast how would the two shape up in that situation? (both standard)

not many people like the bug eyed ones mate :(
They revised it didn't they, I hate the round headlighted one's they changed it a bit on this model, doesnt look too bad in my opinion it's mainly the performance standard i'm looking for and it seems to be the evo that's winning anyways :)

With my sensible head on I'd say go for the Scoob as its newer and has less mileage.

However I haven't got my sensible head on so I would go for the EVO purely for the Exclusivity factor. The Subaru is a Clitorous of the car world, every C**t's got one.

evo V sti

Hi all, i've had a sti ver 4 and in my opinion the scoob was more refined/comfortable inside, was just as quick as my 6,ran it for 3yr no problem, but then started modding it,after 300plus bhp was so UN-RELIABLE,headgasket/crank/oilpump/,

but i bought mine when there was hardly any other sti's out there but now, everyone has got one,i thought i'd try the 6 to compare, and one thing is since owning it is the amount of people who stare,

say awesome car matey, better than a scoob!!

i also think the evo is better built mechanically, plus the drivetrain
so if you can live with the interior of a 6,
get the 6,better looking/more reliable/even when modded to 350,
less chance of everyone saying

'oh look another scoob'

and being miffed when the crank walks

plus the MLR is ton's better than Scoobynet in my opinion.

I woudn't use straight-line performance as a measure for choosing between these cars - it's not what they are about after all.

Test drive them both and make your mind up after doing A and B twisties then balancing up the ownership costs.

....for me, I got the bigger grin factor in the Evo, sod the money - nuff said!!! :D

Personally, it has to be the EVO 6. I have had both cars, EVO 6 is quicker and better handling but as everyone else says the interior is pretty dated. The looks factor and the fact its alot more exclusive is a bonus, people can't stop staring at the EVO. You just see Subaru's everywhere!

Spec wise, just dug around for you:

Subaru Imprezza WRX STI
261BHP
0-60mph 5.3's
Torque 343NM
Torque 253 lb/ft
Top Speed 152mph
Ins Group 20
MPG 25
Weight 1475 kg

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI GSR
276bhp
0-60mph 4.4's
Torque 373NM
Torque 275lb/ft
Top Speed 150mph (Although most people have topped that, including myself)
MPG 23
Weight 1360kg

The above are pretty much out of the book, hope that helps!

No knocking the Scooby, but EVO is the way forward. It will hold it's money better in the future.

I have owned both cars you're considering; it really is swings and roundabouts.

The Evo is better handling even though it's older and it feels more raw and like a true rally car in comparison.

The 03 scooby I had was one with a Prodrive Performance Pack fitted. As a result it picked up quicker than the Evo (305 hp/300 ft lbs with 6 gears) and in a straight line there is nothing in it.

So it depends what you want; if it's a race feel and quicker point to point with a more exclusive look then get the evo, if its a quieter, comfortable ride with better fuel economy (I got 30mpg on a run with Optimax) but same straight line pace and over twice as few servicings then get the Scooby.

Each to their own but this is my take on it. Either way most people will be envious of your dilemma

You may find that the views on here are just a touch biased mate. Me, well I can take a step back, you know provide you with a carefully considered impartial view which should provide you with the answer that really you already know.....which is as follows:

EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO EVO

I hope that helps. :smthumbup

My oppinion get a 55/56reg STI PPP Blob Eye with active-diff,best all round car ive ever had.

Ask the same question on Scoobynet & you'll get all the Sub owners telling you how prone Evo engines & ACD's etc are for breaking just like you've got Evo owners on here saying the same about Subs. They are both brilliant cars compared to everything else on the road in their price range. Its just a matter of preference.IMO there's nothing in it speed wise,Sub looks better but Evo corners/handles better while Subs are more comfortable.Subaru seemed better built inside & out, lots of interior squeaks & rattles in Evo while nothing in the Sub.Oh the Evo has a rear wiper while the Sub doesn't.Sub more economical but if thats going to be a factor dont buy either.

Evos are more exclusive but only because Colin McRae drove for Subaru which gave the name lots of credibility in the mid 90's way before Tommi did for Mitsubishi.Again IMO save your money for a few months longer & buy a newer car with lower miles,it'll save you money in the long run & you'll get a new-better spec'd car.

A Few land mines laid there, lets see how many people step on them!!!
