How much smoke is normal?

Hi guys,
I get a greyish smoke from exhaust when running from cold (fast idle) & then settles down when warm. I have also noticed a slightly darker grey from exhaust (looking in rear mirror) when flooring it sometimes, especially say in top gear on motorway doing 50, then planting throttle so car under load.
Where my tailpipe is near to brick wall I also have a nice black sooty mess left behind. I would say it smells a bit fuely.

Car is evo 8 FQ330, with decat, DW fuel pump, 1000cc injectors, HKS Turbo & mapped to 380bhp/350torque with only 1.5bar boost. Injectors, turbo, fuel pump are only couple years old & was mapped to 423bhp/400torque with 1.7bar back then with previous owner. I chose to get another map and bring boost down for what I wanted.
Had new plugs (not sure which) 10k miles ago costing £52.

Oh, engine has 70k miles with full service history

Any opinions please let me know.

Thanks Steve

I've noticed a lot more soot since switching to a decat with a map on my X. Previously my garage floor wouldn't show any when I started the car, but now I get a bunch of splatters on the floor from both tail pipes. Smoke wise I would get some at WOT before the decat and I'd say I get slightly more now, but it's not enough of a difference to concern me (the person sucking it up in the car behind might disagree though ).

I'd say don't worry, I had my car tuned and went back to the tuner with exactly the same issue...turned out there was nothing wrong, it was just fuel, I was worried it was turbo seals and all sorts. It was just fuel when flooring it. I'd suggest the greyish smoke on startup is just likely condensation, assuming you're based in the UK I guess the temperature is cool there at the moment?

sounds just like my evo 7 after i had it decatted and mapped, running sts turbo, mr cams, 1.6 bar boost solenoid and kakimoto 3" 340 / 340.
I know that righ is better than weak, but worried as oil smells petroly and also a bit of smoke when i floor it - especially visable if headlights behind me.
Thoughts guys?

hi guys,
if I need the car weakening off a little, does this mean a full re map? I think my tuner is pretty good and provided the torque and bhp graphs as well as the afr. I just feel sure there is a need for a slight adjustment, as it just smells rich even after a long thrash.
ill be speaking with him, but just thought id see what your thoughts are.
mind you, when the engine was rebuilt and mapped, it was 31 degrees when dynod.
Thanks
Lee
