Replacing Bolts and screws

So it has come to the time whereby I need to look at replacing the bolts and screws on my VIII. The vast majority of them have all corroded and/or snapped and some have needed drilling out, Also caused some damade to some of the nuts so I'll look at replacing them and getting a friend to welt in some new nuts on the back side of the framework.

I have a little query however, I would have suspected getting hold of some nice stainless steel bolts so I dont get rust issues for a good few years, but would something purchased from ScrewFix be sufficiant for some of the bodywork panels to keep it nice and neat and the same.

The car is currently a massive project so I am looking to strip the car down for a respray and also arrange for some of the underside of the car to be repaired as it has definitely seen better days!

The bolts I have been looking at would be this kind of things, but I just wanted swing this past some others to see if it would be a wise choice or to look for some stronger bits? This is for Bumper mounts and various other bolts that have corroded over time. - https://www.screwfix.com/p/easyfix-button-head-socket-screws-stainless-steel-m6-x-12mm-50-pack/1361t

Look forward to peoples inputs.

I have bought a complete underside kit for my 6 resto, so all suspension parts I wouldn’t mess with in all honesty.

But outside of that if it ticks the boxes I personally see no issue, I will be going the same for the side skirts and other bits on mine.

Anything structural I would not use anything other than manufacture quality, outside of that for bolt parts I really see no problem using what ever suits

Yeah, I think I'll be looking at replacing everything on the underside too to be honest as it's not looking great. but I'll look at getting a bodyshop to do the rust repairs and then replace any additional parts that are needed. It currently looks a bit like this.

There are just a couple of images I took earlier.

The bolt's I'm looking at would just really be for Bumper, wings, and the general ancillary parts.

I recently imported an Evo 6 into the us and am in the same situation.

I bought this product called evaporust. You soak the nuts and bolts in it and it removes all of the rust. I used an ultrasonic cleaner as well to speed up the process, but found that you don't really need it.

I then soaked them in simple green to get rid of any remaining grease. I also read that boiling them in TSP works great too.

The hardware comes out looking mint at this point but the only issue is that the metal is now raw and will rust if left untreated.

My initial plan was to get them plated in zinc Yellow chromate, but finding a local shop willing to do my small batch was a struggle. There are diy kits, but I couldn't justify the cost and learning time.

I finally settled on a process called black oxide (also known as gun blueing) from a company here in the us called Caswell.

I didn't buy their sealant as I read that motor oil works just as well.

I also plan to use boesheild T9 as an assembly lube as an extra layer of rust protection.

As mentioned above, I'm only doing this for suspension hardware. All else is being replaced by stainless steel socket head cap bolts from bolt Depot dot com.

I did look at trying to salvage most of the bolts, but unfortunately the ones in there appear to have been too far gone as the ones I pulled out were too rusty and ended up snapping in the chassis. I've resorted to drilling them out. That's why I was looking to replace the bolts as the original ones were damaged or snapped.

As it is only for the Bumper and ancillaries with nothing too important or structural, I have been to my local ScrewFix and managed to get myself a couple of packs of M6 and M8 stainless bolts that are the correct length and thread. Got some nice new stainless washers and spring washers too. As it was from ScrewFix they were pretty reasonably priced and I know they are strong as I've used them in other applications beforehand.

I will be looking to strip the car down and then replace the back side of the damaged nuts so that I have a nice new thread to screw/bolt into once the project is all complete so hopefully what I have got so far will do the trick nicely.

I want to be in a position where I feel comfortable leaving the new nuts and bolts a year or so without them oxidising and rusting so this seems like the best method for me :)

I'll see if I can get some photos of the finished bits once it's all together with some before and after's as it's not looking the best shape at the moment unfortunately.

If you're after new stuff we keep just about all of them in stock and we also do full kits for specific areas of the car, suspension, diff, etc.
I will certainly be contacting you regarding a couple of bits. Come to think of it, I did email regarding some wheel arch liners a few weeks back but didn't get a reply, although my email address can be mistaken as spam. Both the front wheel arch liners I've had to remove as they were damaged and rubbing the wheels.

No problem just give us a shout if we can help at all.

Some of the wheel arch liners are no longer available but we normally have options for most models that either fit or can be adapted to fit.
What options are there for the Evo 8 at the moment? I've been looking about but don't seem to have had much luck so far.
