Hopefully wont be too bad as I fitted my AVIC X1R in my Cupra R.

One question, the headunit requires a speed signal. This is for the sat nav part so it knows how far you have travelled down the road with a combo of this and using the gps.

Anybody know if there is a speed signal wire in the stereo or any other loom?

Cheers,

Russ

Speed signal wire goes to the ECU. Check your wiring diagrams for the correct pin and you should be able to splice a wire into that and run it to the headunit.

Any ideas where I can get the wiring diagram from?

I believe that www.lancer-evo.net have tha manuals online that you can have a look at. Not sure if you have to be a member or not to view them though.

Cheers,

I'll have a look when I pop the old stereo out. If they put one in place on a VI then hopefully it would still be there by the VIII

Getting there after a day working on the car. The Origin B2 is all up and running now and also solves the small speedo prob on the VIII:

Headunit now in:

Just got to finish off, well tidy up really the wiring and put the hide away unit in its new hiding place. Also got to wire in my amp but waiting for my fitting kit to arrive:

Looks like I do need that speed pulse wire as I went for a drive earlier and the GPS said the signal was strong but as I was driving it though I was still parked up at home!!

I pod connection isnt 100% either but I should be able to sort that easy enough

looking good :)

does the B2 not distract your view?

also, would you not have preferred to go for the kenwood 7025 double din open touch screen?? so dont have a gap under headunit :)

No B2 is spot on.

Nope, had the Pioneer in my old car and as far as I know its still the only single DIN sat nav, DVD, touch screen etc that is made. Mate installs them and says despite the competition stepping upoa gear the AVIC X1R is still the daddy

I have an AVIX 1 and it's the best satnav going for sure. I used the IBus connection for my Ipod, was only like 120ukp or something including fitting.

But then you cannot put a decent head-unit in there, for CD playback while using the Satnav DVD (or does the Kenwood have another CD player?). Also the Avix is an amazing Satnav system but like all these combo things, the sound isn't that good. I use a Nakamichi head as my primary as they are simply unbeatable, but do not offer the MP3, CDR functionality of more mainstream units.

Ah, that's a good solution, but I did want the memory NAV feature and also the ability to play DVD's easily accessible. I find there's nothing better than watching Ronin when topping 150 on my local A road ;-)

All done and dusted, took a couple of days to get it all spot on, wanted power cables one side of the car, audio the other etc. Also have the wires waiting in my boot lid for when my reversing camera turns up, thought I might as well do it now, the result:

Got to sort out a decent cradle for the ipod, all working though, as is the B2:

Boot install, all nice and tidy
