Hi, I have a mitsubishi Evo Lancer 1996 which has a fitted Toad AI606 the alarm in question is draining the battery (fully Charged) when i turn the ignition on which results in not enough power to start the car, no sound from alarm etc, can here relays clicking and a sort of purring noise from alarm module, on a multimeter normal battery drain with alarm working normally is 0.5 and now is draining at from 3.4 to over 5.5 could this suggest a sticking relay etc ? when i disconnect the plugs on the alarm, drain goes to normal

Thanks for any advice

Yeah it does sound like a sticking relay or maybe the battery packs goosed in the siren, have you tried disconnecting the siren only?
Were abouts in scotland are you?

Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply, im in edinburgh mate, i havent disconnected siren but will do that tomorrow and see how it goes, as i said i hear a purring from the toad box, soon as i connect the battery which i fully charged the alarm takes most of the juice so cant start the car if that makes sense

Yeah it sounds like a dead short, but still could be from the siren though looking less likely, you might have to crack open the alarm ecu and check the relays or if need be jump the immobiliser circuits to get the car running. Ive got a 606 in bits in the cupboard so will take a pic of the board. I think ive also got a working ecu in the garage if you end up needing one

thanks paul, that would be great and ill pay you for it of course, just a couple of questions, how do i disconnect the siren ? can open the alarm ecu no prob but how do i tell if the relays are goosed in there ?

The siren plugs in to a 4 way socket about 8 inches up the harness from the alarm ecu. You should be able to put a meter across the relays when youve got it apart or even see/feel which ones causing the problem.
The pics i got are for an ai600 so older model but will give you an idea.
Whats your email addy to send pics too?

thanks paul, my email is [email protected] when i disconnect the the siren ill check to see if the drain drops,if not then obviously the board would you think ? when i opened the case earlier i took out the 3 white plugs/harness and the drain stopped.

You will have to program the remote and your remotes because im not sure wether its from this alarm (you can check it first). Its got the pin number with it so wont be a problem. Yes ive got paypal but ill just make sure everythings there tomorrow first. My dad was cleaning out the garage the other week so it could be anywere

Hi Paul, checked with siren disconnected and was still drawing a drain of between 3.50jumping up and down to about 5.50, so disconnected all plugs and drain was normal to 0.04, took alarm module inside and opened it up and board seems fine and looks new although dont know if that means anything.
