What options do I have on decent headlights?

Reims

I am sick to death (and will be soon at this rate) of not being able to see a thing at night.

I have the brightest bulbs I can get I believe - the PIAA super white things and I still can't see a bloody thing, tbh it's dangerous!

What are my options, without spending out £800-£1k on those new units :(

Is there something else available or shall I just light a few more candles :D

Chris

I changed the fogs on my GSR to PIAA spots and wired them to come on with full beam. I had the PIAA suprt white bulbs too and when you had headlights and spots on it was great :D.

Reims
28-10-2003, 15:51
Oooo, where did you get them Dave? How much?

Needless to say I purchased your fogs, remember?  :D

DaveG
28-10-2003, 15:58
Oh yeah, forgot about that :D. It depends if you mind losing the fogs. The spots get loads more use though, but you miss the fog lights when it's really foggy.

Managed to pick a set of spots up off Gaz 2nd hand. Still got one left, the other one is as CC ;).

They go for about the same price as PIAA fogs. Got a feeling you can get other makes of fog lights which are cheaper, but only PIAA do the spots :(.

Might be worth trying someone like Promax or Roger Rally too.

I wrote to him about these....

Hi,

Very interested in the HID group buy, the 4500k kit (£216) in particular.

What i'm struggling to understand, is that on my car (Evo6) the headlight will only take one bulb, a H4 which consists of both high and low beam. Your kits will say do the low beam side of things, so what happens to the high beam, as the H4 bulb (with two filaments) will have been removed to fit the HID bulb (with one filament).??

Hope thats clear enougb for you to understand :)

Cheers,

RichW.(MLR)

Yeah reason being is that only need one bulb for an EVO, that does low and high beam together, the price quoted on the MLR is wrong though, should be as follows:

4500k kit £273.60
6000k kit £295.20
8000k kit £316.80

Plus delivery and VAT. Complete kit ready to fit.

Let me know if you want to go ahead.

Cheers
Paul

Personally i think that the Evo's problem is the beam pattern, rather than the power of the lamp, o.k. the HID is a slightly different light which helps visability but how much better can they be when the lens pattern is flawed? I have 100/130 lamps and they are still crap!

So anyways, i'm giving the HID's a miss. :(

Chris

They look the same as the one's we had in the Tommi, they had no side lights fitted so would not pass an mot.
So you would to do a bit of teccie work with a hole and a bulb holder!!

Reims,

Keep us all updated, these look like a good alternative, adding a 5w bulb for side lights (to comply witk UK legislation) should be a doddle !

Justin

£205 already burning a hole in the pocket !

Here you can find another version with different shape projectors and completely clear indicators.Go to mirage 97 00.

What are the side lights you are talking about?

ozeparts have quoted $146 (OZ Dollars) shipping so unless these other ones above are any cheaper I shall order a pair and see if they are any good.

As for sidelights, someone mentioned that these imports have no 5w sidelight incorporated that we would need in the UK to pass MOT's etc. so I will need to make a hole for one.

Reims
31-10-2003, 08:04
Ok, they still haven't got back to me :( Time for another email.

I have a question though...

Putting in a sidelight should be fairly easy, but as you can see on these headlights they obviously require TWO main bulbs.

Do yo use HID bulbs or normal dual elemant jobbies?

How do you adjust your wiring to sort this?

Do you need to chop into the loom?

Ofcourse, these are all questions the company should be answering, if they ever get back to me

Please count me in if there is a group buy on these. :)

justin1230smith
31-10-2003, 17:51
Until I get one I am not sure but what ever way, I can make up a loom for us all to get 'em to work.

I doubt if they are intended for HID although intent and actual application do not really matter.

I am guessing the outside ones will be a twin 50/55w affair, probably a H4 while the inner will be a single 55w, an H1 is it ?

(Same as used in your front fogs if you have 'em)

Bit like my old RS2000 Mk2 again, outsides do your dip, when you hit main you get all four.

I will check but should be ordering tomorrow and things from OZ to UK are normally quite quick.

Silly question then, is a "Mirage 97 00" the same headlamps as our EVO 6, or another name for our car ??

Hi, I have mailed you on one of your forms, but have not had any response after 3 days now.

I am mailing you on behalf of the Mitsbubishi Lancer Evo enthusiast site Lancerregister.com and we are extremely interested in doing a group buy on headlights for our cars, the equivalent of your Lancer Sedan CE2 and CE3 bodyshells.

The part codes for the headlights are NCF4500NSS-994 and NCF4500NSS-996.

Can you confirm a few details for us please;

1) Are these two headlights the exact same unit? The photo looks exactly the same, please can you just confirm this?

2) I presume the headlight beam angle is different to the stock headlight? The main flaw in the beam design of the stock unit is that it shines too low onto the ground infront of you. Can you confirm there is a significant difference in the projectection of the beam?

3) Would we be able to negotiate a group buy discount including shipping to the UK, should we be able to provide you with a bulk order on these items. If so, could you advise what price you can offer and how many orders you would require?

We eagerly await your response,

Regards,

Chris.

got the angel eyes on my 4
light quality shxx non eu and light beam is not for right hand drive cars (the beam points to the right not like uk pointing to the left)
used only for show purposes (suposed to be)
honestly if you can drive with lets say candles as light theese are for you.
they do look wicked in the night though

Bad news peeps about the OZ supplied ones, emails pasted below:-

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply.
We are really not sure about the fitting, and we also don't have EVO series in Australia market.
These headlights are actually discontinued cause they don't include sockets and very hard to find sockets that suit them.
Currently, we have only 2 last Sets left in warehouse.

Jean,

Thanks for such a quick reply.

Can I just check a few things.

The beam pattern, is it set for LHD or RHD ?

I can see three bulbs holes per side, I am guessing outside are for 21 watt standard indicator holes, the other two though, are they for a pair of H4ís or a H4 and an H1 ?

Have you or any of your customers tried these in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 GSR 1999 ?

Thanks in eager (very eager) anticipation as the OEM lights on the UK EVO are poor L
