There is a grommet into the cabin on each inner wing, remove the wheel arch liners and you can get to them.

i put my gauges in on the weekend. If you remove the drivers front wheel and the plastic wheel arch liner you see a large rubber grommet with a thick bunch of wires going through it. i made a hole in the grommet and fed the silicon hose and wires through that. remove the plastic panel below the steering wheel and you can pull the wires through. There is a grommet and a 5mm tapped hole in the engine bay which goes through into the wheel arch area.

forget that on the 5 and 6 there is a grommet into the cabin on the drivers side footwell if you move the capet back it behind the pedals dead easy to get to

so should be the same on a 4
