Its because there is no money........ BMW are not supporting Prodrive so they don't have the funds to carry on .... Feel for the guys who will end up losing there Prodrive jobs for a second time.....

The WRC is falling on very hard times with only a few manufacturers signed uop so far, so the FIA will not miss out on allowing another to sign up even if they are late!
I am surprised manufacturers want to get involved in rallying when the cars bear little resemblance to the cars the manufacture. When the cars had to be based "roughly" on production cars then there seemed to be more manufacturers signing up IMO. Off the back of that cars like Lancer, Subaru, older models; Sierra, Escort, Delta etc sold more. But these newer cars people cannot not go and buy from their local delaers, which I think is wrong! I would like to buy a Fiesta 4x4 2.0L N/A or 4x4 1.6 Turbo as per the WRC or IRC rules, but alas I cannot!

Ollie C, there was some great cars that inspired people to mod and replicate the motorsport variants and still had good power/transmission options etc.
But unfortunately when money has to come into the equation producing these motorsport derived variants for the road it becomes expensive for the manufacturers! Although Subaru and Mitsubishi have managed to keep their options running for some time and I guess are still making money from them. I always thought the Group A/B rally cars where a good compromise when you had to build a certain number of road going version before homologation, 500/200 respectively. IMO that was the golden age of rallying, also probably because thats when I had just past my test and was really into the sport then ![]() The good thing was that my Ford Sierra 1.8LX almost looked like the Sierra Cosworth GrpA rally car, nowadays you aren't going to get you Fiesta to even resemble the modern rally cars, therefore IMO the punter is detached from the cars involved completely.
