Have you got standard pedals? It's much easier with the Ralliart ones. As has been already said, some people do it differently. My Brother-In-Law who used to race and he uses his heel on the brake and just swings his foot to press the accelerator with his toes.

Excuse my naivity, but can anyone explain heel and toe and what it achieves please.

There was a thread the other day with 2 Imprezas and 2 Evos racing. Can anybody upload that to show the Heel and Toe action, It was very clear.
(I'm not very good with computers so don't know how.)

It can save you a few secs around a track I suppose and allows for smoother downchanges IF youre in a real hurry. Big deal - is hardly going to change your life. Main thing just helps you change gear faster on downshifts.

No it doesn't, you obviously have no idea what heal/toe is about. It keeps the car balanced while down shifting.

So the car cant be balanced if I downshift without hitting the brake whilst blipping the throttle? Sorry to differ with you... but thats ******!

Its handy but not essential. In the greater scheme of things theres probably many skills to learn before you worry about heel and toe. Certainly more useful in the pre-syncromesh days. Rather than downshift, blip then let the clutch out, you can just perform the entire lot in 1 go - not sure exactly why this would make the car so much more stable. Its not exactly taught to learners is it?

I remember first practicing this on my old 1.1 fiesta back in the day lol!

Just remember for thos trying it for the first time... when breaking with your right foot you can often apply more pressure than you think at first, so be gentle

Totaly pointless on the road ! - why even try ??

Save it for a trackday - it's much easier on a curcuit as it's something that only really works when driving at 100%

Not really, no. You're doing 100 mph, brake for a few seconds, revs drop, go down a gear and let your foot off the clutch and what happens? The car jerks as the revs rise to synch with your speed/gear. With heel toe you don't get that unbalancing jerking.

Again, no. If we're talking technical skills then all drivers should know heel & toe and left foot braking. Then comes the rest.

> Its not exactly taught to learners is it?

If you do performance driving training it will be one of the first things taught to you.

Its not totally pointless on the road, else where else are you going to practice?... unless you own a lot of land?

I wouldnt fancy giving it my first ever try whilst out on a track anyway lol
