I wrote to the DVLA with evidence that other cars were being taxed at the PLG £185 rate when mine was being charged £210 according to it's CO2 emissions.

They altered it to PLG, apologised for their "error" and sent me a new tax disc and a refund for £25..............result

The DVLA are a shambles, you can lose entitlements to drive or ride some groups of vehicles if you are not careful, their answer being take yer test again unless you can prove your entitlement they flog your details to all and sundry so they can come and rob you, they are constantly coming up with new ideas to fine you at the drop of hat for not SORNing etc.

I photocopy everything I send them and post it registered post.

It was a UK car, can't remember when it was first reg'd now but what I did was have a look on autotrader for similar cars then used the DVLA's online road tax cost enquiry site and asked why cars reg'd before and after mine were paying less.

Just adds more strength to the rumour that the Govt/DVLA haven't a clue what's going on... Something to do with left and right hands...! Congratulations Ridgback, I'm happy for you, PLG is almost a "protected" taxation class and definitely something to cherish, but for those who have been awarded Petrol Car, the story is not so rosy. Is your IX an import or UK car? All adds strength to our ability to challenge the system tho..

Its not a rumour..........its a fact. Some of their own staff don't know what they are doing and you can end up paying for it.

Hmmmmmm just seen someone on the news who has built up a nice little business appealing parking tickets.

Maybe I need to sign up as an MLR trader

That piece of round jaggedy edge paper they charge for should be scrapped anyway.........it's nothing to do with pollution, it's just a nice car tax.

The tax on the fuel is the only thing directly related to pollution and it takes a lot more effort to dodge fuel tax.
