What sort of mileage is on this car for it to suffer so bad with the rust?

Mileage doesn't dictate condition in most cases, mines done 58k

Decided to take the car to wales for the weekend, car performed well on the twisty country lanes but noticed in 5th it was boosting to 2bar
Getting it looked at asap!

look for air leak on boost pipe work or a clip has come lose,

Mitsubishi definitely put their cash into tech development as a priority and then what ever was left was then spent on cheap materials for both chassis and body panels.
